hi all already own 300tdi discovery but thinking about buying 1800 petrol freelander for the girlfriend as she likes themwhat is the fuel economy like solo and when towing. Needs to be able to tow twin axle caravan weighing approx. 1480 kgs
 
Don't do it you'll regret it. HAve a read in the freelander section 1.8K series petrol engines are Garbage and will cost you a fortune in repairs. especially if you tow with it.

If anything go for the diesel for fuel economy,

1.8k will tow no problem, it has more power than the two diesel engines but l-series and Td4 are more sensible towing machines, lower torque rev range.

You have to rev the k-series, so you can watch the fuel guage drop.
 
Dont get the 1.8

I am not going to comment on this forum on the merits or otherwise of this engine, merely suggest you do research and form your own opinion of it.
