We have a 2000 Freelander Millenium 1800 5 door and the latest aggravation is that it has decided now not to start

My wife drives the car mostly, so I haven't personally experienced any warning signs or unusual noises.

What happens is this. Open the door with the key fob, and when you put the key in the ignition and turn to the first position, the doors lock (hear the central locking mechanisms operate). Key to start the engine and the starter turns, but nothing else.

When I first had a look at the car (car wouldn't start but I was away from home at the time) the battery was low. I recharged it (first time in 4 years) but car still would not start. I replaced the battery but the car won't start again. Put a gallon of fuel in the tank, and again nothing.

I'm thinking that this problem may be something to do with the immobiliser. The key and fob are together on the same ring. Have tried the spare key and fob but no change.

Anyone had experience of this, or advice on a possible fix.

Many thanks

Sounds very much like the imobaliser is u/s. . . .but first check all fuses relates to ems alarms ect. . . .then go into search and find freelander-every thing you need to know [by the Flippy Flop man] there is a ecu check procedure un other usefull bits also re set your key fob un try again . . . .worth a try ,but it really sounds like the imoberliser to me. . .un best oh luck :)

Thanks Ming for your advice.

Spoke to my local stealer and was assured that a technician would call me back. Yeah right. Eventually called out the Green flag man, and within a few minutes had my baby purring again (the car that is!!).

It wasn't the immobiliser as I thought, but the inertia fuel cutout valve thingy that had operated. God knows how this happened. Anyway, quick reset and hey presto, noise from the engine.

Yippee.......now I'm waiting for the next travesty to happen. Wonder what that will be..........................
