A friend gifted me his freelander 2003 td4 1 BMW engine manual gearbox. It is in fabulous cosmetic condition, black leather seats etc. There was a host of quite minor problems, he took it to a couple of garages here in France who gave him quotes that closely resembled his telephone number so he decided to buy a Rav and as the garages were not interested in PXing a RHD LR with a list of notes on the MOT he gave it to me. I have managed to fix all of the problems for about £75 and quite a bit of labour which was a large proportion of his quotes. She runs realy well now after following tips from this excellent forum, running ATF in the gearbox for 100 mls has given it a new lease of life, changes are now much smoother, Mineralised T2 oil in the diesel has, for some reason, given it an amazing boost and quietened down most of the knocks and clicks that you get on diesels. Changed all of the bulbs to led's from whish.com. Someone had put the sump plugs on with an air hammer and no washers so they were difficult to remove but I worked out a system that I will put up on the gearbox forum. I recently took the Freebee for an MOT and passed with flying colours with no notes or warnings. I took the old owner for a drive who remarked that " it never run this bloody well when I had it". So thanks guys for all of your tips and advice.
