Freelander 1 tailgate glass closing on top of trim

Hi, I have just replaced the rear window regulator. Calibration was successful. However, as the window gets to the top, it sits outside the top trim. I have adjusted the bottom of the runners as far rearward as they will allow to try to angle the glass forwards but this has not helped. Any suggestions?

Is it possible it got damaged in transit? If you're certain it's fitted correctly and adjusted correctly then it must be either damaged or was made the wrong shape from the start.
Only suggestion I have is take it out and compare with the original. If it looks OK then have another go at fitting it.

Sounds like you haven't seated everything correctly you will have to check the runners are up against the door frame then tighten the nuts

Sorry but this is not the case. It has been checked and checked again. Is it possible the trim is sitting at the wrong angle? Just enough for the glass edge to catch the trim and slide outwards rather than inwards. The trim looks fin on the outside (plastic) side but the steel backing on the mounting side is very corroded. The roof itself is fine.

I had a similar problem after replacing my boot door regulator but I put it down to the fact the previous owner just hacked away the top of the door trim and let the window sit flush against it. I figured something must have been bent out of shape. Now I think about it the problem was probably a badly made regulator. Maybe you could space it out with washers to increase the adjustment if the standard adjustment isn't enough.

Thanks. I've tried a few washers and all of the adjustment thread available on the bottom of the runners. It sounds odd but I may attempt loosening and trying a small adjustment of the top of the runners. Sounds counter-intuitive but you never know!

Is the bottom seal on and not damaged? The bottom seal forms part of the lower guide, helping to push the glass in towards the side seals.

I've seen the glass fitted inside out before now, but I'm assuming that's not the case.

Is the seal on the top of the door correctly fitted? Not sure if it can be fitted the wrong way round or not but thought it worth a mention.
Best to assume everything touched by the PO was refitted incorrectly in my experience.

The window no seems to function as it should. The top trim frame is very corroded and loose behind the plastic exterior. I suspect that a few closing cycles has bedded it into a suitable position (at least for now).

Been having problems closing my tailgate, just literally have to touch the handle and it opens but wont lock or close easily.
Opened it today and a good six inches of totally rusty metal dropped out from the top so perhaps yours is rusty too ?
Since the top rail fell out it's fine now.
