LR do not advise you put chains on the front of a freelander but I do not know why .

Lack of clearance when steering
Rear chains are perfectly acceptable.

In yer dreams, unless the grass gets wet or yer doors fall off The good thing about all this freezing weather is at least the puddle in the boot will freeze and stop sloshing about and getting your carpets wet

In your dreams! You've never owned a Freelander obviously - if only it were that simple. Before freezing the moisture from the fishbowl condenses on the insides of the windows meaning you have to scrape both the outside and insides before you can use it!

After scraping the windows in winter - there's more snow on my dash than on the roof!

No frost in mine GG.
I can heat my Freelander up by remote control. Simply fire the FBH 30 minutes before I want to leave for work and I get into a hot and defrosted car. The Freelander is very mountain goat like though.

Looking at my owner manual it says snow chains on 195/80R15 size wheels only for the FL1.
Weather chains on front only, or all 4 wheels.
Where do LR say rear wheels only? That would be bad for the vcu.

Kind of. The vcu is only activate when the differing speeds of the front/rear props goes above a certain point. At that point drive from the engine/gearbox/ird then goes to the rear. When it's not doing that the rear wheels turn slightly faster due to the way the transmission is geared. But this nearly balances out front/rear under normal correct tyre pressures all round. So yer could say it's primarily front wheel drive until the vcu activates, but always considered full time transmission as the vcu is auto sensing when the activate. You will find a resistance across the vcu at all times as they're tight to turn. Yer has to respect there's some huge forces involves in the transmission when turning it.

Corrrrr..... I loves these gayland......errrr Freelanders.

So what's the issue with chains up the rear or is it simply down to the user manual?
