Flashing Red Light

Hi, after charging the battery, my alternator light is flashing on and off . very bright and very abrupt. if I increase revs from idle, it goes out.
About the same frequency as indicator warning lamp.
I'm baffled- never seen this in over 40 years of playing with vehicles.
Ideas chaps?

Could be the voltage regulator is going duff.

Try taking the plug off the back of the alternator and cleaning things up. It may be just a dodgy connection. Otherwise I am with Tottot.

Alternator fault. Either loose connection from alternator to the "charge" lamp or perhaps brushes/slip ring almost dead.

Does it go out or change frequency if you switch on heater or headlamps?

What is your idle speed my alternator flickers below 700rpm
