well they've just turned up

they must be very stable seeing the post office delivered them

first at first the cords set them off, it can now see they are to hold the airbags in place, tethering them to the car

apart from taking the battery out, touching both leads together to discharge any residual power by doing this hard reset and waiting 30 mins

going to buy some bungies as i thought then could string them across to help support the headlining. as i take it down

is there anything other precautions i can take before fitting them plse

apart from having a drink before hand to steady my nerves and stop my hands shaking

Just a thought, if you're taking the headlining out to gain access, would it be much more work to expose the bags on the other side and see how they are fitted? Might help with clips used / positioned, cable routing etc....

u must be a mind ready as i thought the same thing, having a mirror image to compare

it's getting the thing out on my own , measured the lining and is 9 foot long

thought of folding the seats flat, but then will be difficult if i leave it resting on top of the seats , would have to try and lean in to fit them, would really hurt my back that's for sure

thought if there was two of us i could tilt the headlining and then hopefully take it out, then put it standing up in my hallway

petrified of damaging , marking or creasing the lining

Over the next few days, I need to remove the A Pillar trim to run cabling, have you taken the trim off for your air bag fitting?
If so is there any precautions to removing the trim only. I'm not disturbing the air bag - hopefully!

u won't disturb the air bag , it is held in U channels

near the top of the A pillar trim , u will see a small airbag sign, behind that is a torx bolt

once that is removed , pull the door rubber trim off a little bit , them. are full remove A trim

watch out for the small plastic clip , that is by the windscreen , that's the holder for when u get a pay and display ticket

yes, the air bag sign is like a flap, plug one side, then u will see a torx bolt behind it

undo that , need to pull some of the door rubber seal off,

make sure also you've got clean hands , otherwise the trim will mark very easily

no it's not mine , thought it would be easier to show u what is behind the headlining, to give u and idea for running wires

pray tell what u up to, lol

I think he found they were missing!
I guess as airbag expiry dates come up, there will be a few more threads like this one!
I guess we will also see more airbag thefts!

I have not come across anyone yet who is changing their airbags because of a expiry date............:D

Could a subject for another thread, if its not been done already!
Its supposed to be an MOT thing, it seems typical life is 10 years, if they are out of date then its supposed to fail, BUT Im not sure how a tester would see the date without removing trim etc, and AFAIK they are not allowed to touch engine covers, undertrays etc, so trim would also fall into that category.

I've only looked on Google, but from the AA site it states that "The vehicle will fail the test if any airbag fitted as original equipment is obviously missing or defective."
Now I know it's only semantics but the operative words here would seem to be "obviously missing or defective". I would certainly not be happy if an MoT tester started pulling the trim inside the vehicle off just to check a "use by" date.
The entry in the Service Log Book can't be used since in many cases, the log books have long gone missing, and anyway, the presentation of any paperwork isn't usually required for an ordinary MoT*. Neither can a sticker in the door jam be used as an indication of an "in-date" airbag since stickers can be defaced or easily removed.
So going back to the operative phrase, as long as the correct covers are in place and appear to be undamaged, and as long as the appropriate warning lights operate in the correct sequence for the vehicle then the tester must make an assumption and sign off on the airbags working and meeting the requirements of the test.

*I am aware that there are occasions when "paperwork" must be presented such as to cancel a prohibition notice or a police notice to confirm a repair.
