Fitting an Exhaust System

Hi Folks,

My exhaust has just started to go (a whiff of lovely carbon monoxide in the cabin and a more growly sound suggests it is going near downpipe/manifold). It is 88' 2.25 petrol.

I was wondering if anyone with reasonable mechanical skills can tackle fitting a complete system (prices seem very cheap at around £35 to £50)... OR does the job need special tools (for the manifold end)?

Is there anything I need to watch out for (having never done an exhaust before).

I learned brake pipe fabrication last time the bus needed work doing - a skill I now feel quite happy to do... is the fitting of an exhaust something you do rather than take to a Qwik**** type place?

if you can fit brake pipe you can fit a new exhaust - have you checked that there isn't a loose joint ?

Like Sean says, if you can do the brake pipe it's easy. The exhaust to manifold joint was iffy on mine as was the rest of the exhaust so I changed it - but that same joint was a minor problem to disconnect, I think I broke one of the studs but that was it. (oh and I didnt jack it up off of the ground so spent ages sliding the new exhaust past one of the cross members!)

Thanks for that. I haven't checked for a, loose joint... but the rear tailpipe has rusted away quite a bit. Part of me thinks that if a whole system only costs about £35... if I have a go and mess it up it isn't the end of the world !!

The advert (Paddocks) doesn't say if it comes with new gasket, jointing compound etc.... but there must be somewhere on the web that sells such things
