Fitting an Engine preheater

That's a good theory, but I can't drive until the windscreen is demisted and drives inside and out, I drive about a mile to walk the dogs in the morning at 6am.
So it would take 20 mins to get enough heat to be effective just running the engine after starting, the preheater will save me a lot of time.
Would a heated screen help? To be honest I've never looked into either price wise, if you've got a close 3 pin socket and there's not a vast price difference then they seem a good upgrade

I could be wrong but if the hot frog is fitted into the hose marked red isnt the heated water just going to circulate down to the rad and back up to the header tank again and again and actually miss the block all together so defeating the whole point of fitting the thing?
Just thinking water is lazy like electricity and will take the shortest route.

Yes it splices into the heater return hose, Kenlowe used to sell one, think I've even got one somewhere. (Kenlowe Hot Start).
 
@lynall I am jealous of your turbo heat guard! Does anybody know where I could get one from?

Looks nice , doesnt it.

Pretty sure that is the same as my 2.5TD heatshield, which is cracked.
I looked into getting one, I think Craddock had them, but genuine only, they were about £160. I havent bitten the bullet yet, might get one in the new year.
 
there is a far simpler system like the ones we had in canada , its a small kettle element that fits in the block via a core plug and as tighten it up it exspands a rubber seal and seals up , you plug it in to the mains with a timer socket . or you could use a eberspacher hydro this runs on 12 volt and uses diesel this system is fully independant and you can set its timer and temp to your desire not cheap though

Sorry it came with the car, its ben repaired with grp and the original material is thin in places, I would have thought theres a market for these as very rare to see them still fitted.
 
It plugs into the mains and heats the water in the engine so you'll always have hot air coming from the vents as soon as you start your tratter as opposed to waiting for the engine to warm up so you can demist the windscreen on a cold morning. :D
I've got a 240 plug in my wing connected to a charger so I can charge the battery without taking anything out. Plus it's got a solenoid that fires the plug out if I start the engine to prevent me from driving off with it in. Go for it Mate great Idea.
