Fitting 235/85 16s to a D1

I have a Disco 300TDi and just been given five 235/85/16 tyres so I'm looking at what I need to trim.
Disco Tire Fitting Guide says

Rear fender trimming
Front endcap trimming
Steering stops
Possible bump stop height.

are there any guides on doing this?

Look up camel cut for rear trimming. It's even on youtube ;)

For the front end caps, I took of the bottom valance (screws and bolts) and had to cut off the inner part of the end caps. I used a stanley knife to do this.

Didn't bother with adjusting steering stops (youtube this).

In regards to bump stops, no guide needed they are just a replacement part.

Note: my tyres are 265/75/16s, so they are a very similar height to yours, but wider. So your steering stops might be fine. Mine only rub a little on full left lock, nothing on right.

Did you have to do the bump stops?
 
OK, I have no rear bump stops (much like you Foz) as it seems the rubbers have fallen off. Gonna buy an extended bumpstop and use it to make a mold/copy and cast some of my own in polyurethane. Will save about £45 if all goes well.

Front valance is coming off and will trim the end caps this week or weekend and prob cut the rear arches while I'm at it.

Don't like the thought of a weak and sharp edge once they're cut so will weld and angle back on I think. What do people usually do about the edge if anything?
 
depends if you have them on modulars or such or the alloys. the steels give a greater offset so wont rub as much on lock. I also have 265/75/16 on the ES alloys and they rubbed loads when turning but havent needed extended stops (ive felt them hit them before i replaced springs) but again the modular option will probably cause them to rub.
 
I think the tryre guide is dependent on tyre make as iv got 245/70/16 insa turbo mud which is same pattern as bfgr but mine needed steering lock adjusting
 
Well that was painless (other than a bruised knuckle!).

Valance off, end caps trimmed, rear arches camel cut... bump stops being made, tyres to be fitted followed by steering stops adjusted... easy job really :)
 
Tyres fitted yesterday, steering stops done today - another easy job :)

Extended bump stops half made.. using trips of an old tyre and vulcanised rubber block to make them... hope they work!

Went by the tyre fitting guide.

Camel cut to stop the tyre rubbing the rear arch.
End caps trimmed to stop them rubbing the bottom of the caps.
Valance off as it looks better.
Steering stops as the tyres were rubbing the radius arms.
Bump stops because I don't want the tyres hitting the arches as per V8jon's post.

Does nothing ever rub on yours?! If nothing else it was an experience lol
