10 year old motor and out of warranty, you cant demand your money back I on a new car in warranty without give the garage a fair chance to fix it.

I think you'll find I can. Just because something is second-hand doesn't mean it no longer has to be fit for purpose.

Professional sellers of 2nd hand goods still have to ensure the thing works.

It was odd that it started to run away but then just died, Maybe some residual contamination left caused it? Will be getting it looked at tomorrow and plan to make the garage fix it by sending it to LR.

Easier said than done, maybe to much water under the bridge, we had a car and had same sort of scenario, went to trading standards, they are f---g crap, useless! it is all down to the garage now, they can play ball and be good and sort it out! or!! say you should of had it back sooner and not done anything to it! they may say you contributed to it's problems?
will be watching the outcome

Good luck!

Yes they have covered the cost, Had a call today all work been done to injector seals and head repaired, Still running lumpy. The mechanic said it needs to be driven to make sure the issue is fixed for sure, but he is unwilling to do so incase further damage is caused.

Suggested that maybe a piston, or ring has been damaged but he couldn't be sure. Awaiting a call from the Garage owner to see what he is going to offer next

The mechanic working on it just doesn't have a clue what the problem is. They are not going to be able to fix it properly and you are going to end up with a scrap car that you'll sell for peanuts.

This car is not "fit for purpose" and demonstrated that it wasn't right from week 2 of ownership.

Ask for your money back, politely. No more fannying about with repairs that don't work.

+1 with dave

You should off sent the car back and asked for a refund straight away dont let them push into having yhe repaired car back as it will break again

Good luck

In the process of making a claim against the garage, they are unwilling to do any work, even though the fault (Misfire) remains after the changed the injector seals.

And they are also unwilling to refund or exchange anything.

They have until the 24th Jan to respond or i will be issuing court action.

That's the way to do it:)

Hi, where is the car? if you have it or have they? we had the same situ with my sons car, you are powerless utterly, we tried everything to get a refund, trading standards are worse than ****! the garage tried to repair the car for us, but failed, but because they had tried they are in the right not to refund, the only way we got our money was through a threatening letter of legal action, which you have to send them a recorded letter telling them to give a time or reasonable schedule to get it repaired, or refund, if not you are going to take out legal action, you need to do this 1st, soon as!!!
Citizens Advice - Letter complaining about faulty goods

Citizens Advice - Sample letters

good luck

Disco is still with the garage that they had carry out the repairs, On the grounds that the mechanic wasn't happy to test drive it in the current condition, Neither was I willing to drive it.

I issued a letter complaining about the faults since buying, and sent it recorded delivery (Signed for) They have until 24/1/2014 to make a response or i shall be issuing a further letter With intentions of court action.

Also due to the failure of the garage to fix the issue properly, with the potential for further damage having been caused, i have requested a new engine be fitted.

I shall update next week either way
