When the B&Q depot in Hull went up, they were taking it form the river Hull right next to B&Q and they still couldn't get enough water on it to save it. Fooking lot burnt to the ground, and I mean the lot the girders melted in the heat.

Bloody ell Ratty you fill yer landy to the brim with recovery gear, yer house full of fire equipment, how many condoms do you wear at once:confused::D

quote=ratty;986468]I live in the middle of a terrace of 15 houses on a footpath with no vehicular access. The nearest the fire brigade can get a pump is about 400yds away.

The neighbour 2 doors down had an electrical house fire in the actual circuit box 18 months ago. Due to the location of the fire the power could not be cut by flicking the trip switches. We were the only house on the rank to have fire extinguishers. I used to have 2 halon and 1 powder extinguisher in the house. Luckily I had the 2 powder extinguishers from landy in the house too as I had only bought the current landy a couple of months previous and was still in the process of sorting the back of it out so hadn't installed them.

The 3 small powder extinguishers kept it under control until the fire brigade got there and then again until the electricity board got there

I have an open fire which is also my only source of central heating (still not got the aga in yet:eek:). This means I have a higher risk than most of having a fire. Since the scare with the neighbours and the realisation that I live in a rank of houses where nobody has extinguishers I decided it'd be wise to stock up a little.

I now have as follows....

1.5 kg halon in the kitchen
2 Imp chimney cleaner sachets next to front room fireplace (in case of chimney fire)
9 litre water in front room/diner
6 kg powder in front room/diner
2kg CO2 in my bedroom break glass hammer and claw hammer on the window ledge.(non opening window). The window leads out to flat roof with a 10ft drop to ground from flat roof.
6kg powder in bedroom 2
1.5kg halon in bedroom 3
9 litre water in the loft room

I need to get 3 fire blankets too really. I have one in the caravan and one in the landy but not in the house.[/quote]

tis surprising how many people have no means of calling 999 from their bedroom

how many of us have a cordless phone in the bedrooms? they do not work when the power has been cut by trip switches when the burnt cables short out. i allways take me moby, even when not using the alarm on it.
