Look at my name DUH LOL
Hey Guys,

After been told that I give advice here but don't have a Landy, I thought I'd fix that....so went and bought one LOL.

Been away on work contract hence my absence here, luck ran my way after. After chasing a burgundy van for over a month, I was lead to a clean 89, 5 door station wagon with a 200TDI power plant :D She was owned by a Government Minister and was cared for.

She was placed for sale at a business site for a few days with many people chasing her, but the owner had not put on a price tag just yet.

As good luck follow, I happened to drop in just a few minutes after the owner had decided on a price, I made an offer, he counter offered, I ran and got a crap load of cash.... it was mine less than 24 hrs after.

Some guys kept coming to the office asking to buy her right after I made my commitment to the sellers, they all said I got a great and rare Landy.

Today I checked all the fluids, tightened the alternator and water pump belts, cleaned out the filter housing, check the turbo for shaft play, checked out the under carriage, brakes and a few other bits and pieces.

Tons of ideas running through my head of what can be modded/upgraded, made and done...cant wait.

Some pics of the mean green flying machine :) She dwarfs my BMW X5 lol. What ya think of er?

I'm jealous mate. You've got a bonnet mounted spare wheel. Other than that it's very similar to my own 110. Looks nice.

Yep, nice clean lookin motor. Don't look like it will fit in that garage though.;)

It won't fit for sure Lilman, however it will in the garage if the house I am building now and a huge one for all my tools to work on her :)

Have to get another high lift trolley jack. I had a performance garage in North America, so will hate missing my hoists. There is a smaller hoist made for homes which I might get, seen them and they work great.

Cheers mate.

A clean and straight station wagon that's probably been maintained regardless of any costs involved, personally I'd keep it as it is now.

Just enjoy it.

It's straight, no signs if an major accident. I know I should let her be the way she is for now but you know men, we are eager to do stuff and tinker :D

I like to do practical upgrades, like converting the drum brakes at the back to discs etc. I do have a todo list posted here before I even got a Landy lol.

You like that bonnet spare mount or kidding me. Some like it and I don't mind it except for the thoughts that the added weight up front makes it harder on the front suspension under braking, affects handling but then you are not supposed to be racing them and the damage it does to the bonnet itself.

Bernard are looks awesome too, the twin if mine. Thanks for the compliments mate.

That's really nice mate, fit a set of Boost alloys and you're done! ;)

The Boost alloys looks sweet indeed, I would like to change the wheels, an acquaintance told me he knew someone who had a perfect set if original alloys meant for the Defender. Says they stick out a bit and look aggressive but when he called the owner and found out we could get a deal for them, he decided to get them for himself.

In the interim, ducking, I was going yo get some Disco wheels with maybe some spacers.

By the way, it's the name blackstrap means a black Stratocaster? Love your avatar, that model is really sweet, oh the land river too. :p

Yep I like black Strats - I had a bunch of them I'd bought over the years but as their values grew I started selling them off to buy cars etc so I'm down to two now! ;)

That's awesome. I love electric guitars and after seeing one one my friends play at a gig with his band, we went to get me a Strat too. I took some lessons at home with an instructor but time got in the way and I am longing to get back into it.

I am impressed at you guys who play and mesmerized at the techniques and the sound of that instrument.

My daughter is ten and wants to play, so I got her a pink 3/4 size Strat for her Christmas.

Attached a pic of mine.

not convinced a bonnet mount makes any difference to the handling or suspension unless you are running tractor tyres :D

Nice rig! ..and yes start 'em young! I've been bothering guitars since 1980 (Strats since '84) but I still learn something every week so keep at it you can only get better! Just snapped a pic of mine for you - as you see I go for the 'chucked in a corner' display method lol!

Nice looking too. My instructor who has his masters degree in music told me that it's so critical to practice, that if he misses a week of practice some of his advance students will be ahead of him.

It's a lot of work and dedication but well worth it.

My upholstery buddy just came by to look at my ideas. The roof lining in the Landy is perfect in terms of cleanness and rip free but sagging in some places.

Since I will be installing a sound system, ham radio gear and interior LED lighting, we will take it down, run some of my wording and use a better material which is more heat resistant after.

I will take out the dash and redo that too with lots of fabrication to accomadate my electronic gear, switches etc.

Not kidding about the spare. Mine is a TD5 with a much weaker bonnet so can't mount a wheel. Front Runner have brought out a kit but I'm not convinced it won't wreck my bonnet over time. I think bonnet mounted looks cool.
I have been thinking about a rack (Front Runner Slimline) but not sure it will look right. Are you going to add a rack at some point?

The bonnet mount does look cool and retro, but since I have the room inside the wagon, I will make a half moon cradle, bolt that not the back left side corner and then use a ratcheting strap to hold the wheel in place.

I won't add a rack, at least no plans just yet. I got this Landy for the love of it, an aircraft carrier for my giant scale model airplanes, my ham radio gear and to booth around in.

The island is small here, if I was home in North America where the distances are long maybe I would have built a rack, but the. You might say I need a rack for surf boards here :)

Was just thinking if you were close you could have had mine, maybe swap since colours are the same.
