finally admitted defeat - any diesel specialists in staffordshire?

Does that price you have been quoted for the fuel line include labour? What is the fuel line made from, is it metal, rubber or plastic ?

If it is one of the latter two you can buy the stuff for £1 - £3 a metre. - Cant immagine it would take more than an hour to swap it over.

Have a look on ebay, you can get flexible 6mm ID nylon/hdpe fuel pipe rated for petrol & diesel for around £3/metre. It may not be the original part but it should do the job just as well.

As others have suggested I'd try running a short length of new pipe from a can of fuel to the lift pump, see if your bubbles go away. If so replace with some cheap flexible stuff and be done with it. No point paying near £200 for something when the same result can be achieved for £20

Do you happen to know if the feed and return lines are of the same ID ? When I was poking around my fuel sender this morning it looked like the feed line was slightly larger though maybe it was my eyes playing tricks on me as that is what I was expecting.

hi, as sean says thers ashleys 4x4 but they will just send it to a diesel specialist and charge you for the time, thers one ( or was) on aston fields ind est, thers potteries diesels, where bouts are yer ?

South Devon mate. Figured I was best matching the ID of the existing pipes which is why I wanted to know.

Appologies if I got your hopes up with the possibility of free fuel pipe or something :p

If I did it would be a case of the blind leading the blind! :D My background is systems engineering, I know very little about cars or discos, I only know what i've managed to learn in the last few months from reading forums like this and speaking to friends who are LR enthusiasts.

**Edit** Just realised why you asked why I said that was handy to know. I was refering to the ID of the pipe. Those two other posts slipped in while I was writing my reply!

I have cracked the connection after the lift pump as it goes into the filter housing and the diesel is full of bubbles, and wen i crack the injectors same thing.
The lift pump is only 3months old and gives a great flow of fuel just rammed with air.
If i remove the fuel filter and fill it with clean diesel the problem dissapears for 2-3 mins then as u call for revs the filter is being filled with air and the engine cuts out.
when i remove the filter after the 2-3 mins it is only half full of diesel.
lift pump is operating as it should just bringing in loads of air from the fuel line somewhere.
replaced sender unit same problem.
if the fitting into the top of the tank for the fuel tank breather was leaking would this cause these problems??

Air is being sucked into the fuel system before the lift pump, once the fuel has passed through the lift pump it will have been pressurised so it will become a fuel leak.

The leak off pipes will allow fuel drain back over night if theres a small leak, which causes bad starting but once the lift pump has refilled the system the engine will start.

You definitely have an air leak between the suction pipe in the fuel tank and the input to the fuel lift pump. It could be a cracked suction pipe in the tank, holed pipe between tank and lift pump or even a loose or dirty pipe connection.
