Fault code readers

Could anyone please tell me if one of these cheap,generic fault code readers(OBDandEOBD compatable) will communicate with the abs ecu on a 2001 td4 freelander? Everyone seems to have a different opinion on this! Any help appreciated!

OBD and EOBD are for emissions related faults and communicate with the Engine management ecu and as such won't be able to read codes from the ABS ecu.

Thats what i kinda thought mate!!! So do you happen to know of any equipment for the task? Or is it the garage again!?!

I've got an elm scan 5. As chaser says, the cheap code readers don't do everything. Some info here > http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/2001-td4-obd2-88223.html

You'll find LR's T4 software will be able to read everything, including abs and auto gearbox. Some aftermarkets like autologic may read some info, but not all computers on your car.
