had to dip mate of mines home heating oil tank today,
not for my 200 doosel, but to try and unsieze 2t engines in 2 scooters we found sitting in a barn since 1962!!
left the bores full of heating oil for a few days :)
now then, his heating oil in NOT red dyed, costs 70p or less per litre, but has a smell of its own simular to parafin ?
the nearest smell I can remember being close to it is JET1 aviation fuel.
can anyone help me out as to just what this type of heating oil is please.
clear/not dyed/not very "thick" either????

not saying if I would ever mix it with bio or new pure veggie or sunflour oil would I :)

It's paraffin, has it's own chemical markers and I'm not sure a diesel engine would like it.

thanks red & datatek
was the first time I had come accross that type of fuel..

I have used "some" jet1 before in a diesel moondao, it went like a rocket, but must have been very raw-no lubrication properties... was quite some years ago now tho`

just hope it can release the pistons in those 2t engines.
fantastic barn finds both.
unsed since 1962 one of them, 1960 the other.
for those easily bored,
one was a durkopp Diana 200cc scooter with hand built watsonian sidecar on it from new,
the other was even more wierd, was a cyclemaster built "piatti" scooter.
both have full history & documentation from new, all the new owners books/leaflets/info, both have orignal log books.
both have "very good" reg numbers too.

not my purchases, but my son has one, his mate the other,
but I spent hours cleaning/jet washing them, prepping them for possible engine start one day this week.

I had a Durkopp Diana, brilliant piece of kit, the foot operated gearshift was really slick no need to shut the throttle on upshifts, with a bit of tuning it went like stink:):):)

:D
I had 2 when I was just 16 !!
one was a propper mod scooter with 13 all working lucas flame thrower & the like spots on the front, the other was a propper cut down/skelly rat look.
I had machined off the starter/generator & the cooling fan, took off the engine cooling case, just left it to open air cooling, had a 12 battery one side & gallon can the other, the frame cut to nothing,
went like fook with rebuilt/tuned motor..

got a vespa same as now, tuned but still got leccy start this time
that quite quick too

was into scooters years before I learned to love Landies..
horses for courses eh..
