failed on the rear drums efficiency being too low.

bled the rears and the bloody bleed screw stripped the threads on the back offside, so replaced.

the back plates have had the snail cams replaced with a BM kit.

anyway, all was well when i took it down, but then i noticed the pedal had dropped low... and it failed.

got it back and have had the drums off and the shoes are really high and so not on the cam anymore.

i put them back in place and watched the snails with the drum off. the adjuster seems to lift the shoes up each time, so it ends up being away from the peg.

the leading and trailing show are in the right place.

any ideas of how to fix this? is it the kit that's crap.. springs worn? wonder if the snail is catchung the peg enough, hard to see.

I hate drum brakes, I swapped mine to discs and I also swapped the handbrake to a disc, at least you can see what's happening with them, I never seem to get drums to go back together properly either.

So is it working now?

well it's the best it's been for years - including all the other mots, but i'm not sure it'll pass as it's all done on the rollers. with the box in the cab it usually passes.

the bloke is a bit more demanding than i am used to :D

and i was planning to go away for xmas at the weekend, so getting parts is a bit of a pita ;)

i take it back tomorrow morn for a retest.

I didn't, I had to re-book within 10 working days and was charged £17 for the privilege. I'd fitted a discovery axle and lazily left a anti roll bar bush attached and he failed it for not having the whole anti roll bar fitted:mad:

Passed :D

68% efficiency overall, rears back to 280ish kgf.. emissions at 0.40%

also the guy squeezed it in this morning and didn't charge for a second retest, so my initial concerns about them were unfounded. so good news there too :)

Pleased for you there mate, it's a relief isn't it.?!

Sadly mine is due in January, I need to fit new front brake discs and replace the pitted swivels.

Good news :) Some testers can be a bit funny though.

Best get on then :p Otherwise yer know it'll be snowing or some such like when you have to do it :brick:

Aye, it's a bit brisk in the wind, but seems pretty mild the last few days.
Gotta get it done at some point though bud :)

I know.... :)

I actually ordered a set of Timken wheel bearings for both front wheels almost two weeks ago of ebay and they still haven't arrived. I know, stupid really, I should've stuck with LR Direct. Normally I would've just went to chevioet 4x4 which are local and super helpful but I was away at the time. :(

I also need a pair of Swivle balls, really I would like new set, I just don't have enough cash at the moment. I need to source a good used set with minimum pitting. :)

Ah, bloody ebay.
Don't seem to be many second hand swivels about though.
Hopefully you find some :)
