Hello all,

After years of harbouring an interest in Land Rovers I took the plunge and bought my first Landy at back end of last year - a TD5 110 crew cab.

It was tatty inside after 8 years of grafting and I treated it to a more or less full replacement of the interior, which included new Exmoor Trim seats throughout - the XS Black Rack with heated Elite front seats - including a new reclining second row seat frame, new seat belts and the heavy duty fitted rubber soundproofing. All in all I didn't get much change from £2.5k.

When the stuff all arrived I noticed that Trakkers, from whom I ordered all the stuff, forgot to include the automotive carpet which was part of the order. Annoying but pretty minor and something Trakkers sorted out the next day.

The next problem was that Exmoor had not included any instructions for fitting their reclining seat frame and so Trakkers had to email them to me.

When I did get the instructions I wasn't much better off - they were minimal and poorly explained and really, I thought, would have benefitted from some illustrations. When I did get my head around the instructions I realised Exmoor Trim had sent me a centre seat frame and two outer seat frames...but both were for the off-side!

After a long delay for Christmas I finally got the correct outer seat frame delivered. When I started fitting the second row reclining seat frame it became obvious that the holes used for bolting the centre seat back frame could not line up with the corresponding holes provided in the seat base frame - without first having a few millimetres cut/ground off. The same standard seat back frame is used for the outer as well as the centre seat - and they work OK for the outers, but simply will not fit on the centre. This was not a minor tolerance issue - I can't see how the centre seat can possibly fit out of the box without the customer having to remove a significant amount of metal first.

Over the weekend I finally got all of the stuff fitted. All that was left were the front seat belts. That's when I noticed that Exmoor Trim have also forgotten to send me the two front seat belt buckle stalks.

Trakkers have been very helpful and prompt throughout and I assume they're just an agent for Exmoor, and it's Exmoor who have made all the mistakes. I've spent quite a lot of money and I am really disappointed with not only all the mistakes but also the quality of some of the stuff I've received.

Anyone else had bad experiences with them or am I unlucky?

Cheers

Nigel

sounds like you are making a mountain out of a mole hill - how many other forums have you joined just to have a moan ?

removing some metal isn't such a difficult job is it ? - seeing as most landies of any age are hand built the possibility of having to do some fettling should be expected

wrong/missing parts - they got that sorted quickly didn't they ? - if they'd ignored calls or refused to change the parts then you'd have good reason to moan

I often wonder if manufacturers or suppliers read the comments on the Forum . They might get to imnprove their customer relations if they did.
Personally I never had any problems with Exmoor for the seat I ordered. Got it, and retractable seat belts, from Matt Savage who is most helpful.

I've joined one forum - this one. It's my first post because I've only had a Landy since last November and had no cause to post until now, but I've been browsing this forum for a while.

'Mountain out of mole hill'? Depends on your expectations of service and quality. Personally I'm disappointed and would have preferred not to have to chase up other peoples' mistakes/laziness - people to whom I've just shelled out a not insignificant amount.

Nor would I expect to have to take a hacksaw or angle grinder to a bespoke component to make it fit because the manufaturer standardised the part so that it worked for the other two seats. I really don't think I'm being THAT picky.

Cheers

ok maybe not picky, just a little naive

sean likes to argue dont worry you spent more on your seats than most the forum members landys cost and for the money they should be better than you explained.

i've seen some of the instructions supplied by Exmoor, perhaps they've changed them over the past few months but a trained monkey should be able to follow them without issue

also there doesn't seem to be a Month that goes by without the being a feature advert in one of the landy rags detailing how to fit various of their products

perhaps Exmoor credit their customers with a bit more mechanical knowledge and ingenuity ?

In the first instance they credited me with clairvoyance since they didn't give me any instructions...and I'm not prepared to wait until one of the Landy mags happens to publish an article on how to fit my seats. If a magazine has printed such an article however, I would bet it's clearer and more comprehensive than Exmoor's instructions - even the ones you've seen Sean.

Even with the instructions, the way I figured out which bolt went where was by screwing them all into various holes by hand until they all fit and I had none left. I'm admittedly not the most experienced DIY mechanic but even a very highly trained monkey would definitely have struggled. And any fitting instructions which rely on the ingenuity of the customer surely aren't doing their job are they?

Been on the phone with Exmoor again today for some advice and they're great over the phone. The person in the dispatch warehouse must just have been having a bad day when my stuff got boxed up.

Cheers

When I first got my deepender 2 years 2days and twenty three minutes ago the missus would only let me hav it (the landy that is:rolleyes:) if i fitted heated seats. Bought exmoor ones and they have been poor, not very warm and the internal seat wiring is flimsy (if not shoddy) spent more time not working than working. Dont worry about moaning if people didnt we would still buy LRO and ****parts

i think sean must have a piece of coal up his arse or something, if i spend that much on seats i would want the buggers to fit themselves

Its noticable that sean likes to argue on many threads its quite funny really we all chuckle

nah it's my mission to make sure people don't get away to easy when they give bad advise or post stupid comments - tis a bit like our "Zeus make really good belt replacement kits" debate
