Just a quick question guys.
I've searched the forum but can't seem to find a definative answer.
My cat is leaking on 300 tdi, as is the rest of exhaust.
I gather from what i've read that it's better to buy a de cat pipe,
so do i buy a straight through middle or stick with the middle silencer and just replace it.
Also what effect will it have when it comes to the MOT time.
Thanks.

Do what I did, get a stainless exhaust inc de-cat, you will notice a vast improvement in power and smooth acceleration.

cost me £400 but in the long run considering cats are £150+ its cheaper and the exhaust is guaranteed for the life of the car.

a decat downpipe costs about 20 quid, the smart guy takes his old cat to a metals dealer and sells the platinum for 40 quid!

no effect on MOT!

Hi Luke if the whole exhaust is shot then go for a new de-cat downpipe ESR2297 plus a new full system from Paddocks. If yours is a manual box go for their "TDi 300 Performance system" if it's autobox go for the std one.

There is a little more noise with the performance system but on a manual box car it works quite well, but it's not nice on an autobox car at all.

Hi, thebiglad, i've made a mistake i've just noticed with this thread. It hasn't actually got a cat on, it looks like a down pipe with flexi.
Would a straight pipe still be fine or would i need a flexi, and is the performane exhaust this one with part number PM011, if so, will that be loud or is it recomended to leave on middle silencer?
Cheers.

So if I understand you correctly, the leak is coming from the flexy bit of the downpipe? If that's right then yes, you would be well advised to get a solid one ESR2297 (about£20)

PM011 is the correct one for a manual gearbox car, yes.

Yes mate, that's correct. Will it sound well, i've read a few things on here that after fitting the solid front pipe and straight through middle pipe, they sound really loud and have had to refit middle silencer.

That's why I keep differentiating between auto and manual gearboxes. The downpipe mod changes nothing re noise, but the straight-through centre section does increase noise levels.

The issue with auto boxes is that for a lot of the driving time you are below 52mph so the revs are spilling away like a slipping clutch and the noise drones & gets, imo, unpleasant. With a manual gearbox you are up and down the box all the time so the revs are changing and the noise is not so noticeable.

You pays yer money etc etc
