This thread is going to be for anyone to post anything relating to JLR SDD.
So any hints and tips on how to use it, and what you've used SDD for.
All information relating to the comprehensive piece of software will help others use it.
Even if you want to know how to use it, then post questions and answers here.

What is SDD?

SDD is an acronym for System Driven Diagnostics.

SDD is the diagnostic software used by JLR dealers for diagnostic and programming modules on all CAN based LRs after ~2005.

So what do you need to use SDD.
A laptop being the main requirement. It needs Windows 7 Pro 32 bit!! However I've got it working on W7 Home 32, so it doesn't seem too fussy here, but it WON'T work on a 64 bit OS.
The laptop MUST NOT have Internet access, so I pulled out the WiFi card from mine.

If SDD is allowed to update, it stops working, presumably because it's cloned/cracked/duplicated software.

You'll also need a way to connect the laptop to the vehicle. I used a Mongoose Pro cable (probably a clone) which I got from here, for £32.

This cable came with a CD/DVD with JLR SDD version 1.59, which is suitable for LR vehicles from 2005 up to 2017, and the necessary drivers for the Mongoose cable itself.
It was quite clearly a Chinese version, as a lot of the windows setup window popup boxes are in Chinese text, but luckily it's a standard windows format, so I managed to load the drivers, although I didn't read the instructions first time, which upset things a bit. The trick is to load the Mongoose Pro drivers to the laptop, before plugging the cable in, which is backwards to most other PC drivers.

SDD takes some time to install, and requires a few restarts in the process, but once it's loaded, it works well, and is in English, which is helpful.

You'll also need some form of auxiliary power supply, as most routines require the ignition on, but engine off, so the battery will go flat pretty soon. SDD terminates any routines if the battery voltage drops below 12.8 Volts, so an auxiliary power source is important. I actually hooked some cables between the wife's car battery and my LRs battery, which kept my battery charged at 13.6 Volts the whole time. My vehicle (a Freelander 2) took about 10 Amps to maintain the voltage, but a D3/4/RRS/FFRR will probably use more power.

How do you use SDD?
When you first run the software, you need to allow it to read the VIN. Once done, it pulls up the available options for the actual vehicle it's plugged into. This is then called a Session.
I found this website helpful, and is definitely worth a look. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....-dtcs-for-land-rover-l359-new-freelander/amp/

I will continue to add my own pictures and information as I get more versed with SDD.

So far I've only run a limited amount of routines with SDD, although that does include replacing the engine ECU/ECM/PTM (use whichever acronym you prefer).
I've also calibrated all engine sensors using SDD, and the engine definitely idles better as a result.

Here's a link to SDD by PRO, moved from later in the thread.
Available at http://bit.ly/prosdd164 in both virtual machines or iso kits of standalone installations.

Thanks
This will be quite interesting, I found this site yeasterday : https://www.maverickdiagnostics.com/latest-jaguar-land-rover-dealer-diagnostic-software-updates/
But have not tried it yet, At £32 for the cable its not a big layout so thinking of dipping my toe in.

One thing I've read which may be of relevance here. Apparently SDD becomes less useful as updates are rolled out. 1.30.03 Apparently does more than 1.60 for example. I don't know why or what functions are lost, but SDD 1.30.03 does seem to be the preferred choice.
I've got 1.30.03 and it seems pretty comprehensive to me, allowing module software updates, programming, retrofitting, upgrades and loads of other stuff.
Edit.
Apparently 159 is more comprehensive than 130.03, allowing more in depth programming, and potentially more chances to mess things up.

Slightly off topic, but my expreince with the Webasto WTT has been the same - get an early version and keep an old laptop - I find it works well on windows 87. I don't know about SDD but with the WTT the older versions of windows handle the input ports better as you can configure manually, and as above, stay off the net! I tried a later win 10 laptop and it kept searching for driver updates as well as software updates and everytime it got a driver update it reset the port config, I was going mad. This was using a generic USB / OSB adaptor (£30)

Here's a few screen shots of my recent SDD session on my Freelander 2.
I ran various routines, after I'd installed a second hand replacement ECU .
The first 2 screens are after the ECU was replaced.

This screen is showing relevant trouble code. This is how Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) works.

Here's the executed screen, after the diagnostic for the relevant code has be run.

These were some other tests I ran.

I ran a fast idle calibration too, after which this final screen was displayed.

As you can see, it's pretty comprehensive, although it doesn't know the engine in question has a misfire, which is annoying.

Today I did some more playing with SDD, but unfortunately forgot to take pictures of the screens I used.

I've coded the injectors to the ECU, which is really easy. However I still can't find a screen which shows the injector codes currently installed, so I had to use the Delphi to check the codes I'd entered were correct.

Tomorrow I'm going to reset the adaptive values.

The more I use SDD, the more familiar I'm getting with it.

Well - I followed your link to CarTool uk and the mongoose cable arrived quickly - but the cd that came with it immediately got flagged up with a virus so I stopped there. This was on my main pc. I just wanted to see what files and instructions there were as I have not reconfigured a laptop for Windows 7 to use yet. I guess I am going to be asking for some help here. - first searches suggest that others have had similar problems. No reaction from the vendor yet.

I used a laptop that was given to me by Alibro. He actually loaded SDD from an online source for me, but I don't know where he got it, maybe @Alibro can link it?

I used drivers that Ali got for Mongoose pro cable, but these are also available online.

I did try the CD, and it was obviously of Chinese origin. I didn’t get any virus flags though, probably because there's no inti-virus SW on the laptop.

However there's a couple of things to know about SDD before installing it.
Really it needs an old and dedicated laptop, running W7 32 bit.
It needs the date set before August 2012, don't know why. Also the computer mustn't have any form of Internet access, as the moment SDD goes on line, the software is blocked, so presumably its been "borrowed", which would explain why the user name and password given must be used. The software when loaded works just fine, and is considerably cheaper than the several thousand pounds it would cost to have a cosha copy from LR.

I've got a dedicated laptop for each of my diagnostic software packages, it's a bit inconvenient, but keep things simple with the software side of things.

Thanks guys - I need to sort out a dedicated laptop then I may probably be back for guidance if I have trouble following your advice so far - I'm no in a rush as my F2 ain't broke (touched wood)

I had a reply from CarTool
"You need to exit anti-virus software, then use our CD

You can also download software from this link: http://diagnosticdelivery.jlrext.com/idscentral, download SDD 160.00_FULL.exe"
I was not keen to disable any ant-virus so I followed the link and downloaded onto a spare PC all the files on there - not just SDD 160_FULL.exe and ran a virus scan on them - they were clean.
So I think I have the main item - but need to find Mongoose drivers - I could do with their names so I can recognise them when I find them (there is a bewildering amount of stuff on the Jaguar forums) anything else?

What hardware are you guys using? - Most old XP or W7 laptops would be way below what the minimum requirements called for on most sites to run SDD - do we really need 2.5Gh dual core +5gb ram? I have a Samsung N210 plus with an intel Atom processor which is single core hyperthreaded 1.6Gh, and 2Gb ram. Would it run these programs?
