So I jacked up the wheel yesterday afternoon and it was very tight to turn :( Took the wheel off and the inside brake pad was no more and had nearly fell out the caliper

After getting both pads out I noticed the disc wasnt sitting properly in the caliper and was hitting against it

So took the 5 halfshaft bolts out to get to the hub bearing and found this

Soooooo it needs a new hub/disc, new bearings and a new stub axle

dont forget to change the Stub Shaft seal,it a cheap win , and it means you not got to do it later...

Cant believe you remember the first date we met up lol or have you been trawling?
anyway sounds like a plan!

Did you not read rhe tread on the group.......

any downsides?

aside from the fact that waffle boards are cheaper..

the other thing is weight, the Waffle borads ar lighter, and shorter, so easier to store.

ouch that looks like fun, still, relatively easy fix i guess...

got a question on Mods for wales, are there any Mods that people would consider a MUST HAVE for wales?

just in case I've missed anything...

Snorkel, breathers. best thing is make sure all is serviced properly, standard 90 would do it fine.

Waffle boards if you are interested are 1000 x 380 x 50mm or have one set of 1200mm long.

Well, my landy will be standard apart from the folowing:

Snorkel - Well its winter and i'm sure there will be water to go through.
Diff and Steering Guards - Unlike Muddy essex there will be lots of rocky paths.

I dont this anything else is a MUST HAVE for mods, although I will be having rock/tree sliders made before I go, with a full service and check up of fluids, bushes and bearings.

I agree with Geoff and Brian,

Snorkel and Breathers, Diff Guards, and Steering Guard, make sure its just runing with no probs. more or less as you would do for any other laning trip, you may go on, just bank on a few more rocks and more water..

makes sense to me, i think i will be going with:

Safari Snorkel (just need to test)
Axle breathers
GB/TB breathers
Diff guards
Steering Guard
HD spring kit
Winch

MIGHT have:

Tank guard
Rock Sliders

Good point on the fluids, will make sure i am all topped up and will bring top ups of each just in case :)

Whats the best way to check my wheel bearings?

Whats the best way to check my wheel bearings?

Jack up on the axle, grab the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock position and rock, if you got loads of play in it , try nipping it up on the hub lock nuts with a 52mm scoket, drive a few miles and try it again , if play is still there maybe new bearings are needed.

Also look to see if your steering ball things ( dam the name excaspe me..) are ok, if they are worn you will see the play in them as well....or they may well be leaking at the seals

you might have heard something along those lines...

but yes i shall be! Going to be about? if so, ill bring Gears 1 for you if you want (i seem to remember you saying you havent played it)....

I did hear a wisper you may well be over Ipswich way on saturday Jonny?

Which reminds me, i need to get a photo over to matt!

OOo thats had it, this is a very regular occurrence when offroading, the only way around it or to extend the life is use timken bearings, and original corteco seals fitted to the correct depth(4mm from memory) and a good waterproof marine grease suitable for Wbearings. Make sure the the area the seals run are clean and rust free with no scratches dings in. Then check bearings regular, the only way to check is remove the pads and drive flange to then be able to spin the hub freely and check for play, this also allows you to see the hub nut and check flange seal. If you leave it so there is play noticeable with pads in and flange still on its too late and this happens normally taking stub axle / hub with it.
A new stub axle should come with a seal already in if not then put one in.
