My disco has thrown up a bit of a mistery.

It's a long story but will keep it short and to the relevant parts.

It started when after owning it for a few weeks and talking to Chris about his oil light problems, I noticed I had no oil light. I checked the bulb and replaced it with a working one then noticed the plug did not seem to have a wire going into the clocks to where the oil light went.

This what prompted me to get the gauges.

All seemed fine, was getting 55-60psi when cold then about 40psi when hot.

On Sunday loaded the family and bikes into the landy and followed Drizz in his 335d for a day by the beech.

Had to do about 80mph to keep up on A12 when the oil light started to flicker.

Remember it does not light up on ignition and now I have changed the sender and run a new wire, so the old wire is not connected.

At the same time I noticed the pressure was down to about 20psi, lower than it should be.

I checked level at Tesco and it was on minimum so put in a ltr.

Light did not come back but pressure stayed low that day, around 25psi hot.

It was eerie to say the least, is there another sensor to check oil level?

Yesterday pressure has returned to origional, I will be doing an oil and filter change very soon.

Both me and Stu have had this issue.... I changed my oil & filter and it stopped doing it and Stu had to change his oil pressure sensor and it stopped doing it.

Oil will only do its job to a certain extent. If you take oil past its best, the engine will obviously suffer. Might have crap starting to bung up inside causing the fluctuations?

Do an oil change and filter change and it should sort your problem out if mine and Stu's is anything to go by.

Stu had to change his oil pressure sensor and it stopped doing it.

I had idea mine was the oils swtich after doing about 20 miles at 80mph with the oil light on fully and not flickering.....and the engine was still runnig....

THe switch is only a couple of quid but a basted to get to with big hands...

Big hands (grrrrrrrr)

I have small hands, it makes my willy feel BIG!

so with your BIG hands, do you have a small willy ??????:welcome2:

Light didn't come on whilst running on the drive but will plumb it into Mikes pressure tester this week to check.
I might be around in the afternoon Matt but I don't know how busy my day is gonna be till I arrive at work at 7am. Could finish at 11 am or 8pm lol.

I did not try a new sensor first so perhaps that was faulty and not lighting the warning lamp at any time.

Does anyone know if the factory wire can be connected to the large replacement sensor and still work as it should and light the warning light at low pressure?

The replacement switch is not just an on/off but of course measures the pressure.

Brian when you say 20-25psi, what rpm is that at?

Well mine threw its toys out the pram again  noticed a strange hollow knock coming from the back now and again, stopped to have a look and found this

Thats diff oil  not sure what the knock is but the other half thought she could see the wheel moving as i went round a corner  so it might be that the bearings are also fooked.

Looks like the stub/axle seal has gone as well with the oil coming out east job to do tho

The other day it was 20-25 psi pretty much standstill and driving, would not go up.

It was a warm day and I have no viscous fan so oil probably hot but engine temp on normal.

An oil change is due this weekend along with a few other dirty jobs.

I would say that was acceptable as an idle pressure but would expect to see around double that at around 3000rpm once at running temp  although i have no direct knowledge of the 300tdi oil pressure curves and am just going off experience with other engines.

Was at the barn this morning and we found the knocking noise from under my disco.... radius arm bushes ****ed... I'll get some polybush ones on order sometime. Not too fussed at the moment. Been like it for 6 months so can stay like it until someone pays me some money :(

Now going out to give a final spray to some boot floor components ready for the final fit at the weekend. Such a long and drawn out process..... of course it would be.... I'm involved :D :D :D

how often does it happen?

I also want a tow bar. I don't have one and have been offered a rotton boat on a good trailer for £200 :rolleyes:
