ok as long as soon as i get it i need working on it would like at least 1 play time out of it b4 i start spannering.
i had a look at a xs today red one but he put me off saying the 4x4 has never been used and very very stiff to engage the box
still i have the cash so just need to wait for the right one to come up
 
few pics of my first attempt at welding. there sure is an art to this welding lark, spent more time grinding back than anything else.

That should not be too much of a problem the linkage can get crapped up if not used easy fix. was it the one on the red one on A127 at Wickford, if so be wary as it was parked out side the pikey site.
 
If it's only the diff lock your worryed about, don't start looking at the sill, wheel arches & boot...need I carry on.
Things are looking good with the welding mate, a grinder will be your best friend from now on. Yep got the bars welded on, fit spot on.

were yours slightly bowed in the middle, mine were about 3mm out.
 
no not at wickford was agreen one in witham some guy is a landrover dealer
but there all looked very tierd and battered up as i said thought for 2k they would be in better nick than the 1k ones i have looked at one ebay
 
not just the diff but you can see rust and the boot floor and such like so i can tell if it need welding but a broken diff would be a bad start so i would like everthing to at least work till i break it lol
 
Mine look alright. I bolted the 2 middle holes & welded the ends, cos they was close to the bottom of the door. They stick out past the door by about 30mm so if sorry when the wife hits something it will hit them first

Left matt about six, and they were getting there. just phoned him and he was driving home and a turbo pipe blew off and now it wont restart so he is towing taking it back to the unit and getting it recovered home tomorrow, he did not sound a happy bunny.

Looks good mate! does the tube double as the jacking point as well as mounting inside the outrigger?
 
Left matt about six, and they were getting there. just phoned him and he was driving home and a turbo pipe blew off and now it wont restart so he is towing taking it back to the unit and getting it recovered home tomorrow, he did not sound a happy bunny.

I'm home and Stu is now going home.

Basically the turbo pipe blew off coz we didn't do it up - fixed that which was ok.

The inhibitor switch is out of line on the autobox so I couldn't re-start the bastard. Luckily we were 100 yards from the unit so we dragged it back there and locked it in for tonight. I read it a bedtime story about the scrap man then I went back to Ipswich with Stu.

Will go up tomorrow early afternoon with the hiab lorry and bring it back here for the last final touches. It isn't anything serious as we got it firing once but I didn't want to risk driving it home incase it cut out.

You should be able to pick something up quite nice for 2k, small things like a stuck diff lock leaver (if its the mechanism itself) are really not a problem and can be a bargaining point,

Im sure quite a few of us on here are close enough to you and would be happy to go and have a look at one with you, and would be able to point out common faults niggly bits to look out for.

Yes, the high lift adapter fits with room to spare. I am assuming standard jack is the same but have not checked it yet.

Got some foam for your roof lining when i see you next.

Bit of shame that you didnt make it back yesterday, but glad to hear to your nearly sorted. Wales still on for you then ;)

Awsome top man, thats one thing I was a little concerned about with the wales trip, read about condensation dripping from the roof when it gets cold with no headlining. :doh:

Rolling chassis slid under and then the body was dropped.

At that point I stopped taking pics as my battery was low but it all went back together without too much messing around. Will post a few pics up later on. Considering none of us has ever done such a thing, it all went well.

As I drove it out the workshop and got 100 yards up the road, the intercooler hose popped off so we reconnected that and went to start the engine but it wouldn't start :mad:

Inhibitor switch and autobox selector must have fell out of line so it wouldn't select in park or neutral very well so we carefully dragged it back to the unit and locked it up last night. I got a lift home with Stu and fell asleep straight away :rolleyes:

Going back there today in the hiab recovery to bring it back to Ipswich where I can fettle the last few bits, replace a few bolts, etc and check EVERY nut and bolt once more :eek:

All being well, we'll be good.
