Brian, you may well have air in your fuel ;)

Had this with my van, a few new bits of pipe (less than £3) and it was crisp again :)

I found the timing was slightly out and after resetting I started her up with the standard puff of smoke. But then drive it up the road and it seems a lot less smokey and even a little more powefull.

I will know in the morning on a cold start when it's at it's worse.

Just need a ps pump now.

Good news there Brian, fingers crossed for the morning......

It could be the oil leaking into exhaust or turbo causing the black puff... Me and stu saw it when you left on Sunday. VERY black and acrid!

Even if the timing is a degree out, it'll make it a bastard to start as you know.

oil wouldnt give black smoke ,its poorly burnt fuel ,over fueling, lack of air ,poor injection,or whats put into cylinders while cranking before starting

If it's still smoking will be doing a lot more checks.

The way it smoked earlier I had visions of my last one and don't want to end up breaking this one.

Brian what were you experiencing?

i am getting white smoke out of my exhaust for a minute or so on start up, then it clears up, but i cant seem to work out why its doing this?

Gents as james said White smoke=water vapour normal on start up, black smoke=unburnt fuel and blue smoke=burning oil, it's normal to get a puff of White or black smoke on start up if continuos black smoke then over fuelling has the fuel pump been tweaked? If There is a torx screw showing on top of fuel pump then it may have been tweaked as it should have a cap, if continuos blue smoke then I'd suspect piston rings.

Like James said, sounds like you have nothing to worry about.

Mine started with a big puff of smoke that would drift by the windows if the wind is in the right direction, then when pulling away you can see a cloud left behind.

It was a light slightly blue colour in my opinion.

I think it cleared up after a mile and the engine was warm, but my missus said some days it would last for ages.

Today I picked up the Landy from her work and left my company car because of the Power Steering fault, and the tight car park she has to get out of.

The smoke seemed as bad, but for longer, and I noticed a trail of smoke I never noticed before. I seemed to think it would leave the cloud behind but not belch it out while driving.

It seemed to clear up once out of town and on the A120.

Anyway, the timing was a tiny bit out and although not gone cold, after 2 hours the engine was cool enough.

Started it, jumped out to look and saw a tiny cloud of dark smoke. Got in and reversed off the drive and no usual cloud to drive through, very short run up my road and did not appear to be a cloud left behind and seemed a tiny bit more responsive.

The big test will be when its stone cold in the morning.

Fingers crossed. :(

Found a simple fix for smoke coming out the back............ignore it!
Works for me.

Got a fair bit to get on with on mine, managed to spend about £130 with Mansfield last week on new bearings and seals for the diffs and transfer box as well as radius arm bushes (for my new cranked arms) NSF window regulator, rocker cover gasket for when I do my tappets and a few other bits I can't remember.
Also now I've moved the winch solenoid box I can have a go at fitting the Saab intercooler.

Plus fit my boost guage and buy an oil pressure guage to fit.

Oh and two batteries to fit, two alternators to re-build and fit and wire in a 24v system for the winch and fit my new roof bar, spots and 24v horns.

Not much then.

Sounds like we are all going to be busy this weekend.

Mike is doing my rock sliders Saturday so I need to be there instead of helping Mathew.

While the truck is stuck at the Barn I am going to check my tappets and change all my oils.

If I can get a sump gasket I will try and change that to attempt to fix my oil leak.

If its all done by the afternoon I'll drop down to help Matthew and Stu.

A few of us are going to Violets lane tonight. Can anyone point us in the direction of lanes close to it so we can do a few whilst we are there?

Cheers in advance....

SOME GOOD NEWS!!! I got my insurance refund..... It took bloody months lol! Can't wait for my tax rebate now :)

Just got a winch on order this morning and also anderson connectors, 2 work lights and a few bits for the rear bumper I am making.

Got to finish tree sliders off and make a tank guard before Wales. Also finish boot floor after the chassis is swapped over at the weekend. Can then have a final coat on all the bits I've painted underneath then a waxoyl and then I've done welding on the Disco for this year :D :D :D
