The 3.2 and early 4.0 Jag engines "not LR related" had issues with nikasil liners failing, this was due in part to the quantity of sulphur found in fuel

They rectified this issue Post october 2001

;)

Nikasil was problem for many engines then, bmw was big one. Did recalls and fitted liners to get around it outcome was either you were sorted or screwed afterwards.

Don’t let the sellers see your Disco, they won’t like it when they realise why you keep smiling as they talk bull****

Jaguar stopped using Nikasil around 2000 or 2001.

The early jag AJV8 was crap as my son in law will testify. No knowledge of later ones but it seems to me there are no good engines in the JLR vehicles, it's a matter of choosing the least worst.

How old? Mine's a 2001 and it is absolutely lovely. It has never failed me. Smooth as silk and goes like stink.

I am Biased but i just love my 4.6 V8 Thor, it has been looked after, Head gaskets and servicing and so far apart from a cam sensor has not let me down. (i have now just cursed myself) I have the Stainless sport exhaust so also love the burble from it. It is a gas guzzler but as in Russia it only costs £50 to fill it up. Love that power when you plant your foot and for a 2 ton car it gets off its arse. Thor was indeed the god of thunder in my book.
