Engine removal

Well, I've made the decision to fit the e53 x5 engine. As far as I am led to believe , I just need to change the sump over, the oil pick up and the inlet manifold and that's all that is required. Has anyone else actually put an x5 engine in their Rangey?

They have, a shed I looked at had one. But no idea if they swapped anything.

But was definately a shed

If its just hard parts you are fitting then most likely relatively easy , its the software , ecu , etc that might give probs , I dont know if injectors have to be ID'd for the ecu , as thats the sort of thing that could be a hassle , as you will need to keep the ecu that is in your vehicle , due to immobiliser etc. You have made the decision so get on with it , and sort the niggles if and when they occur HTSH

I'm gonna use the existing injectors and swap over all the sensors from range rover engine to x5 engine. There should be no need to change the ecu as all engine sensors used will be the same as existing. The engines are also identical apart from oil pump, sump and air intake. These will all be swapped over. Vanos is also the same. I will provide pics of the install and details of what I've done as I go along.

A quick update

The X5 engine arrived and I have spent most of the day swapping over parts from my existing engine. Here is a list of what exactly needs changing.

Oil sump
Oil strainer - slightly different.
Intake manifold
Engine mounts
Engine oil dipstick

The oil pump is exactly the same and has the same part number stamped on it
