Engine idleing

It's mainly due to the fact it does not get used very often , shooting bus , And this cold spell I've been out every couple of days or so to start it up and idle for 30 secs then a fast idle to bring upto temp and make sure the battery is fully charged .
Some say its ok , some say its the end of the world .
Like Flossies guide , Engine cold bad , engine warm no probs .

idling as a rule isnt good it glazes the bores gums the rings up etc but working a cold engine hard isnt good either, so best is to let it idle to warm up then use it ie give it some work

In those circumstances I would not run it at all but keep the battery charged up and/or take it for a good run every week or two .

Think what James says is good for me , and what you say Flossie if I'm leavening it for a week or more . I use it at least once per week and trying to get out more and use it , But say I went out Friday I would start it Monday and use it weds .
This has only been this last 2 weeks and asked before I did any damage .
As soon as I'm a bit fitter (been a bit ill) and its a bit warmer this will be all a bit irrelevent , But for now I wanted some guidelines .
Which I'm very appreciative of thankyou .

Get well soon:)
Leaving it a week between driving would be fine, that's normal for me some months, I assumed it was standing for months;)

Thank'you Flossie , i'm doing much better considering {cancer} , I'm starting to get out a bit more , especially as there's always something needs doing with a Landy .
With most saying defenders need to be used often and as i'm not doing much , Is what made me think of starting it up every so often especially as its freezing .

As has been mentioned you can get chargers to just maintain the battery CLICK LINKY Know nothing about this one, but it's just to give you an idea. I've got a charger with a maintenance mode built in to it. That way you can stop worrying about the Landy and concentrate on getting well. It'll be fine, even if you have to leave it for months. Take care!

Its a bit awkward where i am to run power to it , But been looking at solar panel ones on amazon which do the same thing . good reviews .
Just had a quick look at a 6w Halfords one. As you say, reviews are good. How sunny is Macclesfield?

I use a solar panel on my spare car which only sees 50 / 100 miles every fortnight or so to keep it from going mouldy, pass on the low wattage solar chargers as they're rubbish - go for a 30watt panel minimum (40-50 quid) and spend 20-30 quid on a cheap solar controller to prevent overcharging, works great !

I use solar panels the 30watt 20x20" size on my lockup , and a 12x8" on my shed for led spots and run an inverter in the shed for mini lathe drill grindstone etc . I did use old car batteries , But Got lucky with the batteries as the panels on the house roof also has a battery storage box , 6x truck size batteries , But the lead acid were not compatible with the electronics so the install company changed them to GEL , so I asked what happens to the lead batts only 4 months old , said basically scrap so obviously asked if I could have a couple said have the lot , and they loved recycling . So back to it for the larger shall we say proper panels on the garage I do use a controller although most have built in diodes to stop self discharge , so on the shed i did but now dont and no change in performance .

But for a vehicle I think the Amazon ones are more pack-able and easier to store than a standard panel + a controller which would be a bit cumbersome to cart around , Great for caravans and garage type use . I have a spare new big 30+ watt panel , need to check could be higher , But will get ie the type from Amazon for the van .
