engine died now won't restart

Driving on the motorway last night thought i heard a loud bang from the engine which then lost power and although would turn over wouldn't restart weather was horrendous very windy & wet which is why i'm not sure about the loud bang but think it must of been the engine towed home checked fuel coming from filter when i turn engine over and spurlts out so presume fuel lift pump OK changed the stop solenoid about a month ago due to starting problems run fine since then not sure where to go next.
help appreciated

Well i would start with the obvious, rocker off turn engine over does the rocker gear move? look down at the pushrods are they still straight?
Turbo rubber pipes off, is the impeller still in one bit? much oil in the pipes?
Crack the injector pipes and fuel come out when you crank it?

I've got fuel going into the fuel pump but nothing coming out at the injectors
will have another stab at it in the morning

As lynall said.....cam belt..ouch
