gunk?? could you be more specific lol oh aye i thought it would require alot of elbow grease which i got plenty of lol just waiting for a good day to get stuck in

OK, accepting you really are new to all this ... Gunk is the trade name for a long established degreaser / engine cleaner. It's been around since before the war. It's good, but it won't work miracles. Halfords, or any car parts factor will stock it.

Honest, just google the word.

Johnny.

yeah i am really new to this kind of thing but your description was very good, i just dont know what to do really i dont have any kind of parafin gun or anything like that, how much does it cost to get it steam cleaned, i would rather do it myself so can feel a sense of achievement about it lol. what is the best option im confused lol:confused::confused::confused:

you can buy engine bay cleaner in spray bottle to spray on and laquer finishing spray for after to keep it nice, find local pressure washer alot of car wash places have facilities for you to do this ,or you can hire steam /hot washers from local hire shop,if you hire one you can do underneath vehicle first with clever use of a jack ,ramps or wooden blocks

Sorry Mike sometimes i don't realise that people just don't have the things i have. I have a very well equipped garage with all the toys. Compressor spray guns, hot wash/steam cleaner. Gunk has been around since Adam was a lad. Mixing it with paraffin makes the paraffin water soluble. So when you wash off everything is clean with no oil residue. It is in my view important to use a hot wash rather than just a pressure washer because the hot water evaporates quickly from the parts being washed. There is less chance of it getting into anything it can damage. An old trick is to run the engine whilst washing it off as the heat dries things as you do it.

yeah thats it, im only just starting out to be honest and i dont really have a great deal of "toys" to play with yet but im working on that lol just wish i had an endless supply of money haha or someone in my family who had all this stuff so i could nick it lol but i see how using the gunk and paraffin method would work and will put that to use just need something to wash it all off with first, reasonably priced thou lol

Maybe try mixing some...

...with paraffin in a container, apply using some old paintbrushes then rinse off with some hot water, could always put hot water in a bucket then use one of them Asda smartprice plastic kitchen jugs to pour it, saves getting it everywhere and you can concentrate on one area at a time!

Using a steamer is a bloody good option but as someone else pointed out its not something everyone has...maybe try my method first and see how you get on, if it fails then find one of them hand car washes that can steam the engine bay, apply some Gunk or similar outside then get them to steam it clean for you :D

Funny you should say that about someone in family you could nick it off. My lad has same idea. I am the member with all the stuff he is the one trying to smuggle his inheritance out of the garage bit by bit. The steamer weighs about 150 kilos so he hasn't quite managed that one yet. :):)

£10.99 for 2.5 litres at Halfrauds. About £15.00 a gallon anywhere else.

lol thats funny, wont be long before he does manage to run off with your steamer i imagine, thats kids for you mine are like that now but thankfully he is only 2 and my other lad is 12, so the only thing they after are sweets and chocs or money and computer games which doesnt leave me with much at the end of it lol, wish you were bit nearer then could have a look around your garage and see what i could "borrow" hehe

Yeah but this one is 30 and six foot five, has a removal firm so he can afford his own bloody tools. He just for some reason thinks mine are better. :):)
