Many years ago I had checked a plane for dispatch from maintence but it needed de-icing before it got towed to the departure stand. Weather was freezing, lots of delay, schedualler shouting on the radio every minute. Hour for the de-icer to arrive, it works 5 mins and stops. Its out of fluid. Another freezing hour waiting (I'm in the cockpit with no power, -5) up comes the service truck and drum. Nothing, back on the radio "he's poured it in the fuel tank..." 1/2 hour to shift change? I walked back to the hanger and left them to it, ...

Low on diesel out in the country I pulled into a lay by and grabbed red the can in the boot and poured it into the D2 tank. Didn't get very far, it was petrol in the jerry. The week after I took the wife's car and saw as usual that it was very low and stopped and poured in the contents from her green can- it was five litres of water. :(

mine does that, she doesn't like the smell of petrol or diesel, could be her excuse to get me to put petrol in for her
Desperate wives eh! For a while we only had one car and she often asked 'can I use the car tonight?'. Yes, of course my beloved - here's a twenty. Put some diesel in, I'll be leaving before dawn in the morning.'
Moments before dawn - ****, I need a garage. She would put in a quids worth and pocket the change. Grrrr.......

My fuel gauge is unreliable. Happened to me this year but I carry a petrol can just in case. You can tell it's happening with a petrol cos it splutters and cuts out. Must be a right bugger with a diesel having to bleed the system.
Just bought my Defender and on the trip home ran out of fuel. The needle was a little above the red and the next town was 20K away. I didn't make it. Called BCA and got 5 gallon delivered. A very nice guy also stopped and showed me how to use the little lever to re-prime. Wouldn't work. Didn't know about the cam position. In any case the tow truck driver pulled me, then it was all good. Lesson learned.

Glad you got home okay. When I bought my S3 it was a 2.25l diesel. Back in the day I bought it and had to drive it home. 25 miles from Edinburgh across the Forth Road Bridge. Filled up with diesel and headed north. WTF journey, smoke belching juddering so much so I became spooked about the build up of HGV's n cars cos I couldn't do more than 45mph. What a sheite engine . Scrapped it and put in a 2.25 petrol. Never looked back apart from never ever going on the motorway.
