I have some electrical problems on my new 1962 series 2 land rover, I cant get the lucas separate windscreen wipers or the petrol gauge working and the battery went flat so I bought a new battery, which has now gone flat. the dashboard is different to my other series land rover, it has a lucas ignition with h s and off positions, could I have discharged the battery by leaving it the wrong position? it is so flat that it wont charge.

All you need to find is a +ive feed for the wiper motors and link into them via a fuse.

The fuel gauge is from a +ive feed to the gauge with the other side from the gauge to the tank.

It sounds as though you may have blown a fuse!

Your switch is a combined ignition and lights.

The key switch is for the ignition only, and you will turn that to start the engine ... unless you have a separate starter button!

The 'H', 'S' and Off are 'H' for headlights, ''S' for sidelights and 'Off' for all lights turned off!

Leaving the switch in any position bar Off, does have a tendency to run a battery down!

If your new battery will not take a charge, then return it to wherever you bought it from.

Thank you for your help, I think there must be some fuses I haven't found yet, I will have a better look. And possibly fit a separate starter switch to avoid leaving the lights on accidentally.
