Evening all, I’m new to the forum and hoping someone amongst yourselves can help shed some light on an issue I’m having.
I have a 2013 discovery 4, in the last couple of days the heating has had a mind of it’s own at least that’s where it started ! The fan would blow on full power and the climate control panel in the centre of the dash would loose all power ( no lights on whatsoever and no response from dials or heated seat controls) this would also be accompanied by the outside temperature display on the instrument cluster just displaying 3 dashes. Following this yesterday all of the above problems presented themselves again with the addition of the reversing camera and sensors becoming unavailable then the radio / say about screen going off, the indicators would also not work and a warning that was on the dash for low washer fluid disappeared. These then came back on after a short period of time but still no lights on the climate control panel.
I have checked all of the fuses that think associate with the problems and all seem to be in working order (checked visually and with a multimeter) today I removed all of the centre console in hope that I would find a loose connection or damaged cable behind there but again nothing ! I can’t seem to find any other threads on here where the same issues are all present together !
sorry for the lengthy first post but I wanted to give as much info and detail as possible. thankyou in advance for any help !

I'm afraid I can't help with your problem, apart from asking if you've tried a diagnostic tester on the car & to ask if you're aware of the specific Disco 3 / 4 forum that has a really good reputation :

Thanks for your reply, no I haven’t tried a diagnostic tester on the car yet, although that is the next thing on my list. I’m going to make some calls today, now that bank holiday is over, see where that gets me. Yes I have seen this forum, I have searched on there too, although the thread I was reading when I decided to register was on this forum so I decided this is where to start . I’ll give that one a go, thanks again.

First thing you need to do is check the battery is healthy as a failing battery can cause those kind of problems.

Thanks yorkie, the battery is pretty new, maybe 3 months old, but I have checked with multimeter and showing 12v.

hi

battery I’m afraid is virtually dead at 12 Vdc, needs charging and should be around 12.6 Vdc, low battery will cause havoc and light up ur dashboard like a xmas tree

also check the Earth strap on the engine as that can fray causing intermittent issues , u can also use a multimeter to check between the negative of the battery post and engine to ensure first it’s a good Earth point, can then put a jump lead onto the ground battery post and engine

there was a recall notice on this , check with ur local dealer

then see what it’s doing ref errors , of course jump lead is just a temporary thing to see if it cures the issues

when u replaced the battery do u know if diagnostics was plugged in because it’s needs to know a new one was fitted, called a BMS reset

ref diagnostics u can get a cheap Autel Ap200 for around £50.00

https://www.autelstore.co.uk/wholesale/autel-maxiap-ap200-bluetooth-scanner.html

personally use a gap id but they’ve gone up in price of around £420.00 but saying that it’s paid for itself very quickly and do really need a half decent code reader with these motors as there very complicated

so after you’ve charged ur battery up , then get the system reset , plse let us know how u get on

hope that helps

Hi Mate!
Do you not rate a Foxwell for Disco 3/4s?

hi mate

must admit mainly seen the gap iid and the Autel ap200 being used

only thing I’ve heard is the foxwell can’t program keys whilst the above can, alas don’t know how true that is

Like you, I am not sure what the latest Foxwell can do.
TBH not even sure what my Pro 520 can do as I have only had to use it for certain things!
According to this http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/foxwell-nt520-pro-program-ignition-key-186004.html
It can't but maybe the 530 can. who knows?

Apart from that, on another topic completely, I wondered if you have been able to get to the point where you can get another doggy? ;)
All the best
Stan:):):)

hi Stan

many thanks as indeed also seen that on the D3 forum ref the foxwell but couldn’t see the post

indeed that’s the thing with some of the readers, must admit having the gap iid has been a godsend and must have saved a fortune in not having to visit my local stealer, but blimey they’ve gone up in price , some £420.00 , sell second hand for around £330.00

indeed I am, been looking for a while now, want to get a small dog, ie, bichon etc , adored my little milly , lovely breed private sellers since the lockdown have put there prices through the roof , well over a grand, rescue centres ,waste of time with so many regs , ie if u have grandkids etc, but bet they will be swamped as the lock downs are all reduced

will be so nice getting another playmate for candy again

thks again

hi mate, thankyou for all that info !
sorry that’s me being vague in my post not realising that the decimal would matter that much, it did in read 12.6 as you say.
It’s in at the moment for the next couple of days having some bits done that I had booked before this went wrong so I will be trying your suggestions out as soon as I get it back ! I will also look into some diagnostic tools too, was talking about one with a friend Saturday actually ! As you said they are pretty pricy but with these cars they seem evidently to be worth the price !

Thanks again and I will let you know how I get on !

hiya

ur very welcome

that’s brilliant ref the battery , believe ur model year is the 6 x speed and doesn’t have the stop start system

indeed Plse get them to check that Earth strap as seen it as a recall, alas though can’t find the actual recall notice

many times it can be something very simple , due to the amount and complexity of the modules and wiring can sometimes be a challenge pinning it down so indeed always best to start with the simple checks first

I own a D3 and for me wanted something that would do everything , that was the gap iid but as I mentioned gone up in price , even second hand there expensive but in the long run pay for themselves very quickly

also seen the cheaper Autel gain popularity, plus suppose depends if u wish to do a lot of the work urself , if so having the best u can afford is always advantageous

but feel having one is really a must otherwise ur be chasing ur tail all day long

awesome and indeed Plse let us know how u get on

ps, also plse make sure the battery BMS reset has been done

Hi Stan, my 530 can program my D2 remote & FL 1 remote fobs. I'll plug it in tomorrow & put a pic up of the screen if it mentions actual key programming.
Stay safe.

Hi Stan, here's the pics of my Foxwell NT 530 for key programming (connected to my D2). It looks like it will program the key on it so you would hope it would do other models. :)

it doesn’t have the start stop feature but it’s the 8speed command shift gearbox.
I’ve got a number for an auto electrician that I’m going to call tomorrow so he will have a lot more clue than I have, although I have checked the earth across to the engine with a multimeter again and shows the exact same 12.6vdc. Where about is the earth strap located ?

yes it definitely seems that they are worth the money ! I can do some things myself but even so the cost just to put the diagnostics on a vehicle is ridiculous these days, never mind the cost of the actual work, so having the ability to self diagnose is a worthwhile one in my opinion.

it hasn’t had the battery Bms done as I replaced the battery myself, although this was around 3-4 months ago and no issues arose immediately after.
