Disco 3 (LR3) electric seats fitted

at long bloody last i now have a full working electric seat , taking my manual seat and electric one apart , swapping covers over .

didn't bother with the heating function , as i've got to fit a hvac unit

what a job and a half , had to add wires to add a 12 vdc and a 5vdc

yeh i know , no pics didn't happen , lol

the difference is lovely , now have support on the back of my knees and can do very small adjustments

these seats were out of a HSE , think they use thicker foam

got all the panels etc back in

well worth the nightmare

bloody happy , what a result

when i plugged it all back in , i felt nervous touching the seat button and praying to the bloody gods

then it moved , god knows what the neighbour thought

me sitting in the seat going up , then bzzzzzzzz going down , back , forward , lol

was even messing around with the seat at the lights, sitting there ,

are u free, going up bzzzzzzzzz

So so common, I saw 16 Range Rovers last Sunday on my return run to Bromley via Chislehurst.

May have be a RR convention and half of then thought they owned the road.

How did you get on removing and fitting the covers? I've been offered a full set of nearly new leather covers but hear they are a right pain to fit?

yes they are a nightmare

they have a small rod that goes into the main cushions , that are also secured by small copper clips then onto the covers

all has to be stretched , took me nearly 4 x days to change the covers on one seat

u have to get them all out and back in again with long nose pliers

does take a while

see quite a few people send them away to be done but costs i think £100 per seat to be done

also have to be careful of the seat airbag ,

the bolts on the seat cushions i had to drill off and retap the threads, the cotten material gets twisted on the end of the bolts

Thanks for the reply. Hmmmm... they are a real nice leather I'd be tempted to go for it.

Or second option is to pay £1200 and have them done professionally

holy god, seriously that's how much they cost to get them done

i've never taken a seat apart , u can't cut the old covers off as u can catch a wire

it takes time that's all, if u look at the pic, the indentations is where the rods are , that's where u have to attach the clips to, it pulls the covers in tight

these front seats were originally leather , it weren't very nice, and it would have meant changing all 7 x seats as mine is cloth

sounds daft , what about an upholstery evening class take ur seats along and do them with instruction as ur doing all of them

Hmmm I might give the new covers a go. They are ALOT cheaper than having them done by a pro.

that's why i done them myself due to the high cost , just takes a lot or patience in order to get them off

without saying of course great care regarding the seat airbag , bit u knew that already , lol

Good job Gary.
When I changed the heater elements in my seats I gave up trying to re-use the metal clips that hold the covers to the wires in the foam. Used some tiny zip ties but it is still a fiddly job. Glad to see the effort was worth it with your seat conversion. No pain no gain as they say!
