Hi all , new to the forum and to owning a landy( after learning to drive in one).series 3 1979,trying to fit an electric fan in place of fixed one but will just not fit!!!, mondeo fan adapted but still to deep!,question is,do I have to mount it infront of rad or is there a different water pump to give me more room, any advice greatly received

You will need to fit it in front of the rad, just make sure it's turning the right way so its blowing the air through the rad and not away from it. Most electric fans are designed to turn one direction only(the shape of the fan blades) so make sure its wired the right way and its mounted so it blows air through the rad. :D

I have seen the Kenlowe electric fans advertised in the magazines. Obviously as they are trying to sell you a product they make out like it is the best possible accessory to a Land Rover.

When i read the advert, I thought that it would be possible to adapt a fan from another vehicle in place of buying one. Is there much advantage to having an electric fan?

how computer literate are you?

canyu see the search button at the top?

I suggest yu use it - there re lots of threads onhere - and how toos for you.

Thanks all, only been viewing as guest b4 tmhm and found bugger all about mounting fan, and where, was told that best place was behind rad, had a good search and got some good advice, will be sure to search b4 posting next time

on my bitsa i've a citroen bx fan sat in front of the rad' just a couple of brackets i had to make and a nice easy fit

only thing i don't like about it is the noise when i flick the switch (no temperature switched thing for me) as it's quite noisy

So is there any benefit to mounting it behind rad as per original or is infant acceptable as long as the rad has some air flowing thru to wash the engine?

as long as the fan is mounted close to the rad' and it blows or sucks correctly there's not really anything wrong with mounting it either side of the rad', the benefit with it being in front is it's out of your way/gives more space should you need to change fan belts

Thanks nitemare, will crack on with wiring it up , good thing is the mondeo one fits well already so not much alteration needed, will the. See if it's as quiet and slightly more economical as people say(2 1/4 petrol so don't ruddy think so!!!)
