For my sins I've bought another p38a. Its a 1998 GEMs 4.0 litre auto.

It only has 1 key. The key fob worked and locked/unlocked the vehicle fine. But the main 12v battery was low. So I took the battery home to charge it (something I've done countless times on my 1999 4.6 p38). However, on refitting the battery to the 4.0 the keyfob, while it still lights up when you press the buttons, no longer does anything.

The vehicle is disabled doing this:



I contacted my local dealer who looked up the EKA code (as it wasn't with the vehicle). I've tried to use my Nanocom to disarm (something I've also done many times on my 4.6). But to no joy or success. Obviously I can only trust Land Rover that they supplied the correct EKA.

What options do I have now? Really not sure what to do. Thanks.

I'm told that on some vehicles it's possible to enter the EKA code with Nanocom, no idea if i's true.
Clear the RF memory, then operate the FOB and see if a code is being received, if yes try resyncing the FOB. It could be that the door lock micro switches are faulty.
If you eventually manage to clear the EKA lockout, turn off the EKA function and the immobiliser in he BECM to save you having the problem again.
 
AFAIK you can only enter EKA via nanocom on BeCM's that are "unlocked".
For the love of God never lock an unlocked BeCM because you cannot reverse this with a Nanocom, you need Test-Book or similar. Howe Engineering / Station Garage Meldreth provided the replacement BeCM in my vehicle and reprogrammed it.
 
With your Nanocom you should be able to get to the page tell the system to clear the RF memory.
When/IF one of my 2 original keys gets out of synch this usually re-enables the non-working key, and BOTH then work again.
RF unit is just under the DSR window-sill trim in the boot. Has a blue wire to the window glass as its aerial IIRC.
 
First of all with the message "Key Code Lockout", it will not accept any EKA. You need to shut the doors & leave it for a while. If you need to lock the doors, do it with the key ONCE. Do not superlock it.

Then go for lunch / dinner / coffee / tea / bed, etc. but wait at least 30 mins. Then check if the display has changed to "Enter Key Code".

Now you can enter the EKA, either with the Key or Nanocom. If you do it with the key, after two attempts, stop & open the drivers door to avoid Key Code Lockout again !! (Lockout happens after 3 failed attempts)

If you have Nanocom available, test the drivers door latch microswitches - it's easy. There's a menu that shows the state for the CDL & Key-switches. If either are faulty then EKA will not work with the key !!

FYI BECM Build 36 was introduced around 1997, so you should be ok hopefully. (FYI Both my 1998 GEMS will accept the EKA from Nanocom.)

Nanocom BECM Utility menu looks link this. Simply type in the EKA & press disarm.

This is incorrect. Being able to enter the EKA without the dance with the key is one of the great benefits of having a Nanocom.

BTW I'm not sure what benefits there are to having your BECM unlocked.
