New member to the page. I am having an issue with getting my key to sync with my 2000 p38 4.6 petrol. It has been into an auto electrician to have the radio/amp fixed and he has left the battery to go flat and I've had to buy a new battery and it has lost all of its information. The car isn't even recognising the key. It will unlock but is not syncing when I an putting the code in with my fob. Not sure what to do next tbh. I've heard about a nanocom but not sure if this can do anything or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try opening a conversation with @mozz smith (use the envelope symbol top right of page)

Welcome to loonyzone, there is a set procedure to resync, sounds like a job for @mozz smith or @martyuk hopefully they will be along soon as I have just tagged them
hope the auto electrician is sorting the battery as he caused the problem.
we may have members up your way with nanocom, just checked lzir and there is a member in st Helens with one for a diesel p38 but don't know if that one will work.

Thanks for your replies, and no he didn't pay for the battery and also charged us £60 for the privilege of not even fixing the radio/amp

Is this a sync issue or an EKA issue?
Does the dash message centre say engine disabled?? If so, you need EKA entering which can be done with the key (If you door latch microswitches are all OK) or with nanocom if not.

If it's not saying engine disabled, you should be able to just sync it with the key.
Lock it with the key, immediately, unlock it with the key then put the key in the ignition straight away and start and it should sync.

I have nanocom but I'm away until 15th march and then only have a couple of days before I'm off again. If you're still stuck by the time I get back, I might be able to find a bit of time to call by and plug the nano in and see what's going on.

There are a few very knowledgeable guys on here that have had a good look at the amps and recon it is a no go, there are quite a few threads on the subject.

That might not work if anyone has unplugged the RF receiver.

Why not? It doesn't use the rf receiver for that does it? I thought It just senses the correct key locking and unlocking the door then the active coil in the ignition barrel senses the transponder in the key.
I thought the rf receiver only operated on signals generated from pressing a button on the fob
I may well be wrong but that was my understanding of how it works.

Thought it transmitted the rolling code to be received by the BECM. Might need to read the relevant section in RAVE!

You can enter the EKA code with a key and fob that is not synced to the BECM. So it transmits nothing in the EKA code entry process. The BECM receives signals from the micro switches that is all. As a matter of fact you cannot sync an out of sync fob UNTIL a valid EKA code has been entered and accepted. It does however transmit a signal to the RF receiver in the fob re-sync process. Or if synced when the dash message "Engine immobilised enter EKA code or press fob," appears. To reset immobiliser.

Sorry, I'm away working at the moment and haven't had time to catch up on forums..

As everyone else has said - if you have a message on the dash, then it's an immobiliser issue and EKA entry should fix that and allow resyncing of the key.
If no message, but it turns over but won't fire up, then that's immobiliser code sync between BECM and engine ECU.

The immobiliser coil around the ignition excites a coil in the key fob, which tells it to transmit a signal to the BECM - so if the RF receiver is unplugged, then this won't work. Likewise if passive immobilisation is already turned off in the BECM then this disables the coil too. There isn't a separate transponder for that bit - it's a one-way system where the BECM triggers the key to send a code.

As far as the issue at hand is - my guess would be the vehicle needs the EKA entering. Someone mentioned they had a diesel Nanocom - this will work on a Thor petrol for everything EXCEPT talking to the engine ECU. So if the EKA is known, then this can be input with Nanocom and will then also bypass the door latch/possible faulty microswitches.
