Dazjam - still only need one short pipe and peg?
Remove pipe in Willo's first picy, fit short pipe to plastic branch, then peg, then reconnect original pipe to peg and off into outerspace wiv Ming.
Leave all of the other pipes connected as original - blocking here stops vac to EGR solenoid and EGR valve.
Leaving pipes on keeps dirt out.
Simples? :):)
 
Sorry, hadn't noticed td john had answered the same way. (Always starting to read from the first non-read and going down that way, had reacted when I saw dazjam's post and afterwards I went further down to the next page where everything was explained already, sorry.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I love it - you spotted my (cough cough) deliberate mistake!!

Hahaha, brilliant. It didn't even cross my mind to just go for Willo's pipe and leave it off the egr side. Ah, two doh!'s in as many days. :doh::doh:

Lucky I haven't been asked to do any rocket science eh?! Thanks TD John; yeah, It's all good now. Took seconds and is nicely neat :)

Question for the brains here.

Just purchased a 2006 SE Freelander (auto) for the misses with 31000 on the clock, filled it to the brim with fuel and its done 260 miles.

Now Im tempted to do the above and fit the 2 following items:

Landrover Freelander TD4 Diesel Tuning Performance Chip

And

Landrover Freelander EGR TD4 Bypass kit Stainless Steel

Would the above help the MPG and improve the driving.

Get rid of the auto & buy a manual if you are after better mpg ,I regularly get in excess of 450 miles per tank from my 02 td4.:)
 
EGR Bypass (any one but fit it right), Synergy2, BMW crankcase breather (at least the filter part), Willow's pipe mod to blank the EGR solenoid (no duck), dose of Millers or similar every fill up (insurance/cleaning for injectors), silicone turbo hoses (luxury but they don't split). Makes the TD4 go much better and has a better MPG (on a manual anyway) went from <30 to nearer 33-35.
Does depend on the driving style - as the mods increase power and ease of delivery it allows you to use a lighter foot, hence more MPG.
If you drive it like a '2 ton sports car' then you will struggle to top 25 MPG whatever you do.
You have's your fun and pays at the pump!

As Ming says - REED THA FRED. (All of it) Lot's of good stuff in there - even stuff on other chipping options.

Any of you happen to know the part number for the strange jubilee clip that goes at the back of the EGR? Mine fell apart when I took it off and the part that's shown in the LR parts catalogue (STC4549) doesn't look right.
 
Hi every one ive just come across this problem with EGR valve :i have 2001 td4 manual: 82000 miles can any one tell me is this the reason the engine management light is on and also the horrible smell of unburnt fuel/exhaust in the car? [ cant be the wife shes already been banished] thanks to all who posted the info on EGR and the duck noise very informative cheers

My EGR is clean so have just done the peg & pipe mod , I did both ends but can now see you only need to do the top pipe :)
 
Having read this I decided to clean my EGR and disconnect the vac pipe and stick a wood screw in the end.
It seems slightly better and pulls from 30 in 5th, may have been a good idea to have tested this before I did the work - duh!
Anyways... so far I haven't had the engine duck noise that so many people have mentioned, should I blank the pipe at the other end as suggested anyway, could the EGR solenoid become damaged or is it just a case of an annoying noise?

no i dont think so big puss . . . .check your turbo rubbers 1st [three big rubbers in the front ,look for any small holes or loose jubery clips] failing that dissconect your Maf [do a search] see if that improves it . . . .if not write a seperate thread indicating problems. . . . .they are helpfull on this lz place :):):)

Earthling K . . . . .you really need to make sure that vacuum pipe is sealed propper and clipped in a safe place a plastic golf tee is good with a cable tie. . . . . . . . .you dont want the Willo duck do you :D

If I say so myself, my peg and pipe is a neat and easy option and with a little help from TDJohn on applying common sense (!) it lives at the solenoid end to avoid driving you quackers! Sorry. Ming and Willo have this topic covered and it seems some get the duck and a few don't. I dunno about damage per se but the sucking can't be a good sign so I'd suggest that end even if its not doin Donald impressions :)

Do the mod at the top end and leave the pipe on the EGR -- Simples :cool:
No Flipy Flopy Pipe and Ming can still get his 18 holes in :)

I think it was the Belgian "Ray" who covered this in the beginning (back in end 2005 or early 2006) and came up with the blocking of the vacuum pipe in the first place. Only after that came the duck part as it seemed none had heard that noise until I mentioned it, and only much later came the solution of blocking the 'incoming' pipe of the solenoid.:tea: Can't unfortunately remember who brought it up first but whoever it was a big "THANK YOU" to him from all.:5bgrouphug:
