Willo had a Duck in his Gaylander :D quack quack !!!!!!!! :p

Ming you old man, your input is entirely correct, especially for the 2nd word of the phrase: "had", as, thanks to the help and input of all the people around here, it's been cured as BarryD did, that T-piece blocked plus a strangling kind of thing on the tube, double security for the duck not escape anymore ...... (my reputation in mind I've attached two pics of what I can't explain exactly, picture more "selfexplaining"....:D:D:D took picture with a transparent piece of tube to show better what it does).)

Any idea which one to go for please? The black one possibly looks better?

1) Black: £48 .50 inc delivery.

New generation 2 Landrover Freelander EGR bypass valve to fit the TD4 Landrover. This valve has been redesigned and improved over the old design and any other cheap imitation designs that are currently circulating on ebay. The new design of EGR bypass now utilizes a high quality CNC machined body which incorporates a deep grooved lip to ensure that the turbo pipe cannot slip off the EGR bypass. Also the new CNC machined body has a larger internal diameter compared to the OEM EGR valve to ensure that maximum airflow passes through thus boosting performance, economy and reducing emissions. This new design is a marked improvement over the old design which was originally developed in conjunction with Tuning-diesels for cheaper diesel tuning. Even with the old design the improvements that the bypass offered the engine were very noticeable. Testaments and information on this EGR bypass can be found on the above website. So far I have shipped over 700 EGR bypasses all over the world for this particular engine. Along with this the EGR bypass now comes with a Turbo Boost gauge mounting pipe to allow easy installation of a Turbo Boost Gauge (pipe is shown in the pictures sealed with a blue vinyl cap). By mounting a Turbo boost gauge to your car you are able to monitor the boost levels to ensure that maximum performance and efficiency is achieved at all times. A secondary feature is also a mounting pin for the redundant vacuum pipe that is disconnected from the original EGR Valve. The EGR bypass has been manufactured using 8mm thick laser cut flanges (unlike other cheap versions on ebay that come with a 4mm flange that easily distorts and does not seal properly) and all the sub assembly components have been assembled using jigs to ensure accuracy and consistency every time. This product has been MIG welded by a time served coded welding engineer. Each EGR valve is professionally fully POWDER COATED in gloss black to ensure that an excellent aesthetic appearance is achieved along with maximum corrosion protection thus ensuring that the product enjoys . Other cheap EGR bypasses on ebay are poorly wet sprayed and have exposed parts of the component that will corrode within days of fitting.

2) Stainless Steel: £42.50 inc delivery.

The EGR bypass has been manufactured using 8 mm thick laser cut flanges and all the sub assembly components have been assembled using jigs to ensure accuracy and consistency every time. This product has been TIG welded by a time served welding engineer. This replaces the existing EGR assembly and in return it offers the following improvements over the standard EGR system. There are some POOR BLACK PAINT EGR BYPASES (will corrode within days of fitting )only kits available but these are not ideal, the actual EGR valve is a restriction to air flow and is best removed completely..[/i]

So where can I get my hands on one of the black ones?

hi ming
going to clean egr after removing the 4 bolts does the pipe with the jubilee clip seperate after loosening

Hi

Just incase anyone is interested, put my hippo in for it's mot the other day with the egr bypass on. It passed with flying colours and the emissions were lower to. Thanks to all the posters on here!

Hi all,

got a quick q - know part of this was answered previously, but i'm wondering about both gaskets.

RAVE / Haynes talk about replacing gastets when fannying around with the ERG and the induction manifold - do i really need to change both of these? Or can i clean and reuse?

I just want to clean the EGR / Manifold before the MOT....(ordering bypass, but wont get it in time to Prague)

Thanks

Hi Earthling. . . . .just use anti seize paste [the copper stuff] thats what i use or any good gasket paste, but if its damaged on dissmantle then you will have to fit a new one or make one up [its easy peasey :)]. . . . .Ming the Merfiless :):):)

Just bought a black one of these from Ebay. Fitted it today and what a brilliant bit of kit it is. Pulling out of junctions used to be a bit fraught with a tendency for it to bog down but that's all gone now and it pulls beautifully. The only problem that I had was that the strange jubilee clip that goes round the blanked off exhaust fell apart so it was a bit of a faff to put it back together and I'm not convinced that joint is as tight as it could be.

just fitted mine along with a synergy 2.

had the synergy fitted a few weeks before fitting the bypass, fitted the bypass yesterday and it adds even more torque to the engine !!!

now runs like a turbo charged car !

would recommend fitting both the synergy and bypass.

well worth thew money ! :) :D:D:D

hi,
i fitted a Allisport egr blanking pipe to my 2005 td4.
Very easy to fit, no gaskets required (unless rubber o ring is damaged), small spigot to block vacuum pipe. Very nice welding, pipe has a lip to help stop the turbo rubber pipe popping off.
Recommended.

I have another option for anyone who wants to keep original egr (cleaned out would be advised) or just wants a cheap fix that's easy and tidy.

In the finest tradition of Blue Peter I offer you the shelf peg mod!

I thought about a few versions but the tidiest way that doesn't involve cutting the original vacuum hose and is also easily reversible is a simple extension piece. Consisting of a 30mm (you could do precise measuring if you fancied it but this was close enough for me) length of silicon vacuum hose (4mm internal diameter, 8mm external) with a steel shelf peg stuck in one end. It's just a case of slipping old pipe off of egr, insert peg end of extension into it, then open end of extension to egr. It's blocked off, neat and can be removed in seconds if needed.....

On the egr blocking issue - I was quite surprised how much more power is on tap in 1st and 2nd - I drive quite aggressively and the extra grunt almost had me drifting round the local tesco roundabout!! Shall have to lighten the right foot!

I shall report any issues I find with the peg mod if any should crop up.

I had to buy a meter of pipe (£1.49 delivered) and I have ordered 20 pegs as I thought it might be nice to share.... if anyone wants a bit of pipe and a peg, pm me your address and we'll call it a xmas pressie! (After xmas, call it an easter gift etc...!)

Gotta love the hippo when it's tweaked - beats them bus-like discos and tin shed defenders ;)

Congratulations on this exceptionally good solution for the EGR but I'm sorry to say but imho I think it's the ideal scenario for another episod of "The starving duck", a play written by W. Shakespeare. As with several others who did the egr blockage at that point I also got the starving duck, this was remediated after (forgot who it was) someone said to block the vacuum tube BEFORE it reaches the EGR solenoid. He suggested to block the tube at the arrival down at the solenoid, tried this to do but found it much too difficult to do so and therefore I did it at the starting point of that tube, near the brake vacuumcilinder. Since no more ducknoises anymore. Think the same principle of that silicon vacuum hose with the shelf peg is ideal to be used up there, I first stuck two layers of ducttape over the hole and then pushed the tube again over it, later on I put a strangling device over the tube but the part/installation as used by dazjam would be very easy and would work perfectly I think. Will put a pic. of the location where I blocked the vacuum off (see yellow arrow) in order to avoid the duck. Good luck. (pic 2 gives you a better idea where I did it, ignore those yellow arrows, it's the tube with no arrows pointed to on that pic 2).

Hey Willo, thanks matey :) and to Ming :p

Yep!! Absolutely spot on with the duck impressions and I must have read this thread a dozen times and still forgot about the spindown issue. Doh!

But apparently an easy fix and glad I got plenty spare tube bits and pegs. Big respects to both of you for all the original great info too. Bless ya!

I suppose my offer ought to be changed too as peops gonna need 2 pipe bits and 2 pegs. It's all good now! And so much better than stinky Discos and Defecators! Heehee.
