You would think so...
Was selling a car at a reputable auction once. Bidding ran upto about 90% of reserve price so did not sell. Asked auctioneer to let it go for bid price if bidder still interested only yo be told that no one actually bid!!!

Is there such a thing as a "straight" auction?

tis called bidding off the wall, happens all the time

another scam is leaving a bid on viewing days, to find that when you do win something, it's at exactly what your highest bid was

no it's called bidding up so the auctioneer is trying to get some people to get bidding.only works if there are people who have never been to an auction before.they think if the car is being bid on it must be a great car so they try and bid for it.as soon as the auctioneer sees a new face he drops the hammer bloody quick.:D:D

thats the difference between a gud auctioneer n a bad n.a gud n runs it up n dont get caught out,but a bad n runs it up n gets left wi a bid n no bugger t knock it down t!
