FINALLY MADE IT HOME..!!

Had a great 2 days laning with great companies. Had to cut it short by 1 day due to my disco misbehaving.

day 1: some great lanes to had, and some lanes that were impassable. Some very angry farmers & walkers as usual. Came off the last lane (which is meant to be closed at least 15 years ago) about 6.30pm, adjourned to Morrison for some fuel and groceries. Arrived at the start of the lane leading to the camp site about 7.15pm, but only made about 200 yards or so due to deep snow, 2" at the least with some part over 4" deep. We then turned around and went for another route to the same camp site. This time made it about 400 yards through the snow. Then decided not to camp on the snow, and went to Sarn Helen looking for "ANY" camp site that is flat. Started pitching for tent at about 10 - 10.30pm.

Day 2: met up with the other 2 who can only made sat meet up at Betws. Almost all the lanes went very well. Lots of turning back also as convoy leader sucks at map reading while driving. Day 2 end at about 3.30pm due to convoy leader, me, having a disco with 'no gearbox'. So, day 3 canceled and everyone went home.

Field repairs & broken stuff:
day 1: Zedman (YORC) in Jeep had binded brake piston. Stopped at start of lane, took caliper & pads out, lots and lots of WD40, and made it worked. Tomtom lost his CB aerial.

day 2: Boydy (olhi) cleans his air filter with petrol so that he can get back 14psi turbo boost instead of 10psi. My disco autobox started playing up with 'D' going straight to 3rd or 4th gear (skipping the first 2) on pull away. Got worse later with engine stalling when put into any gear, hence the cancellation of day 3 and early finish on day 2.

My autobox issue:

when right foot on brake, and shift gear into any gear, engine stall (high & low box). On high box, right foot on accelerator giving some gas while shifting into any gear....engine stall. However, on low box, right foot on accelerator giving some gas while shifting into any gear....manage to pull away with some jerks. So, on pull away, low box, 1st, 2nd, neutral, high box, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th........is the sequence each time the vehicle stops. Managed to get to A55, but saw a long queued up traffic at front, quickly pulled onto the layby, hoping to continue the journey when the traffic eased. So, made a few cuppa, heated up some stews and noodles and played card games while waiting for the traffic to ease up. 2 hours later, dont see much traffic anymore, so about to start the low box / high box sequence to continue the journey, but thought of giving it a try on high box "D"................woollaa........engine idles nicely as normal...!!!!!!!!!! Reversed for about 50 yards and forward again on the layby to try out further......nothing seems to be broken...???????? Then remembered seeing some report / comments on the HF22 torque convertor being under spec for an off road use, where the convertor has a tendency to overheat. So, re-started the journey.....no issues whatsoever on the autobox along the journey. HOWEVER, 2 miles from my co-driver's home.....engine overheats.....pulled in at a petrol station....top up water (6 litre)....dropped co-driver home...while unpacking, realised a totally wet driver foot well with water dripping out over the sill......leaks at heater matrix, I thought......so tried to make it home myself (11miles journey).........5 miles into the journey......over heats again......stopped for 20 minutes to cool the radiator.........resume journey...3 miles.....overheats again.......did another top up with all and any water I have in the vehicle, 5 litres or so (not full top up tho).....finally made it home...knackered...!!!! Will unplug the heater matrix tomorrow to check that there are no other leaks........then remove / repair / replace the heater matrix later when time permits....!!

What a weekend..!!!!
