Views on whether a Series 3 or Defender would be the best buy for ease of maintenance/repair appreciated.
From what I have seen the Series seem more basic but easier to work on and the bodywork comes apart more readily.

Thanks in advance.

yer thats pretty much it. also look at early 90/110. a bit more comfort with easy to work on engines. also very cheap to buy. parts are a little more expensive than series bits, but still viable.

Nah, I reckon it's actually a valid question. No point having a motor that you can rebuild on the kitchen table if you don't enjoy driving it.

Answer to question: A III is probably the easiest to work on + parts are cheapest.

But:

A 200Tdi ain't that much more complex even with PAS & is a better every day or even high mileage commuter (like wot mine is).

who?. ah say! who? is gonna be driving 300 miles a day in a series except a complete and utter dead head?
thur int anything complecated in either of them
the 90 is more comfartable but the series has more ' street cred' and more things you can fix with a hammer and duck tape

the hammer bit i go with. the duck tape?
not too sure bout the DT.
bloody hard to get duck tape to stick to a series.
