EAS Kicker Lite (It works!!)

To Colin

I must say brilliant piece of kit.

From what I understand sometimes the EAS gets an out of range signal or something like this due to dirt or water, it doesn't like this and that is what can cause the EAS to send a fault. If this is the case then I dont think it is masking anything.

Imagine being 50 miles away from home on a fishing trip with friends or family and having to drive them home on the bump stops. Appart from the discomfort any envy they might have had at the plush ride and leather seats would soon disapear and you'd never get them in your car again!

60 quid is a small price to pay for piece of mind and also probably one of the cheapest bits of kit you'll ever buy for a range rover.

I would just like to thank all of you for your many positive and appreciative comments that highlight just how good our products are and what value for money they truly represent. Thank You all, you cheered me up no end.

And i am also so pleased to hear how much they have helped out.

Although, as mentioned, we do sell such things as the EAS Kicker lite on Ebay, the price there is pre inflated to incorportate many of the additional costs at worst case scenareo and It is actually much cheaper to buy it direct fom our own web shop. Especially since then, you can PM me the order number and hopefully qualify for an additional 10% established forum member discount.

Hopefully now having covered commercial aspects and helped out those looking for the best info on how / where to buy, i am quite happy to move on to Nik B,s comments.

Nik it most interesting you note how the P38's on board systems such as EAS, seems to register faults if you do so much as hit a deep enought pot hole.

You are most spot on, although i would like to use your introduction to this effect to contributre my unique knowledge and experience for others to share in, especially in respect of how this effect migrates.
After all, i am as much a land Rover lover as the next guy and am fortunate to have not only a P38, But an L322 and a later CAN bus only Disco 3.

While the P38 EAS is bad enough for this, i can tell you that this phenomenon just gets worse with progressive models. On an L322 if you run low on washer fluid it stores a fault in several modules, in fact it is well known that any common event like a low battery voltage can cause multiple faults in multiple systems, and typically in trying to identify important / real faults, it's best to clear all codes and see what re appears first

By the time you get to CAN bus vehicles, it seems each vehicle stores it's own unique set of ignorable network traffic related faults.
And in fact our advise for new customers is for them to become familiar with what is normal fo their vehicle such that they can more quickly identify anything new.

Of course just like the P38, on the newer cars, new faults can be due to nothing more that hitting a pot hole. however the newer systems are much more prone to new faults being registered by a lot less or even just a system glitch too.

By example, here is a link to a quite recent post i made when in the worst possible situation during an off road day out i personally experienced

I think yu will find that yo products are considered good bits of kit, so there is NO NEED TO SELL THEM - you would be better advised to stick to technical data and PM peeps direct if yu think they might benefit from one of yo products to fix a particular problem.

Agreed MHM, And i really do most humbly thank you for words of wisdom and guidence.

Did you like the piccies of us enjoying a BBQ in the snow ?

Hey CW..Thought you lot emigrated to sunnier climes to get away from that cold white stuff.
Can't believe anyone would have the stamina to cope with so many LR vehicles at one time !!
Over in Ireland there's a guy named Michael O'Leary (CEO of Ryanair) who is one for getting the establishment's (And others) backs up...did he teach you..or..is it the other way round ?????

Just noticed this thread and thought I would add my two pence worth...

Well I've got an EAS kicker and it's been absolutlely invaluable (thanks spudh!)

It just sits in my glove box until the rare occasion when I need it. Last weekend I went to Southampton (not my idea) in the pouring rain. On the way back I got no less than 6 EAS faults, 2 of them bump stop jobs.

Having never before experienced the joys of driving on the bump stops I can certainly recommend to all P38 owners that they consider having a EAS kicker in their glovebox. There's a reason why the 35 mph message comes up!!!

Anyway, suffice it to say that the 35 mph faults were caused by the heavy rain and having the eas kicker in the glovebox was invaluable. It gave me the confidence to continue with my journey. The rest of the faults were known (to me) faults which also gave me the confidence to continue (irritating as they were).

Personally I wouldn't consider the EAS lite as I want to know what the reported error is. I'm pretty sure what my long term problem is and will be ordering the appropriate service kit when I get round to it but at least I know it's not a serious problem.

In the meantine, I'm just very grateful for the EAS kicker. It really take some of the pain out of P38 ownership and I'm looking forward to the new diag tool.

You can order direct from the blackbox solutions web site, but as you are new to the forum you may not qualify for a discount:(

In defence of my own P38 it's pretty good most of the time and I have no regrets buying it.

For a matter of interest my own car sometimes doesn't pump up to its proper ride height when it's been parked on a slope where the car is tilted back and to one side. I think water is running down somewhere on to the sensor but I don't know what the sensor is or where it is so it's just a guess when it does this the light flashes as if it still being pumped up for a long time but a good run lets it sort itself out eventually. I've only had two faults the first was the bump stop type which was terrible the second it just stayed at normal ride height so I waited to get home and then used the kicker.

I do have the cables and diagnostic software as well and used then the first time to reset the EAS, but haven't had tiome to try and figure out what messages it is giving me.

If you can't get EAS Kicker lite to work' like I did at first and it comes up with communication error (flashing red light straight after blue, I believe, but correct me if i'm wrong) just spray some contact cleaner aerosol into the OBD socket before plugging in then switch ignition on, as my one did'nt seem to start working until ignition was on.
I have had the EAS Fault message (soft fault ) message come up when driving on a smooth road or motorway on normal or motorway height, with the usual flashing lights, then staying on and the high symbol on the dash panel. This has been reset 2 or 3 times on Testbook, without any obvious faults being found. A new compressor was fitted recently as it showed up as raising up a little slowly, when tested, but hasn't cured intermittent fault code showing ( approx every 500 miles on average) I would suspect the valve block may need a service or a loose or corroded connnection somewhere may be causing this.

Height sensor connector problem is a likely cause. Pull the connectors off, clean the contacts and when you re-fit, put plenty of silicone grease around the joint and the wire entry points.
