Sold a Land Rover engine the other day and sent it to buyer on a pallet, buyer contacted me saying that dvla had asked him to provide a receipt for engine with engine number on and date of sale and sellers name and address, seems like dvla are tightening up, and making it harder to choose wich engine you can put in your Landy, anybody else had this ?

It was straight forward when I did it last year....
Put a 3.5V8 into my 2.5P 90 CSW, sent the DVLA a V5 amendment request letter and the signed receipt for the V8 from the vendor and I got an updated V5 back in a couple of weeks. Added an autobox too but they weren't concerned with that. It's engine capacity they are interested in (tax). I suppose it's also to prevent fraud or enable theft....?

edit to add it's changes in engine capacity/fuel type DVLA are interested.

Unless you have a link to the gov site. Then no this is not the case.

You can sell what ever you like. They may have been trying to do something else which is why the DVLA wanted more info.

They do it here the same.
We fitted new (recon) to the P38 a few years ago and made sure that the supplier listed the engine number on the invoice so we could change the reg docs to reflect.

In the uk a letter from garage (on letterhead Paperwork) is also suffice, if they state this engine is fitted to this reg car, it was enough for our other one (got a friendly garage:))
But an invoice from seller with numbers stated would do it too.
You can put in what you want they just need proof you have put in what you say I guess.

They will want the minimum but you should be prepared for the worst case scenario that they want the lot.

Well that stuffs it then, i bought a 2.25 petrol engine to go in my series 3 and have been preparing it new rear crank oil seal etc, can,t find the engine number but where i think it should be looks like its been blobbed over with weld, so can't change it over with dvla

So where do you think it should be?
Blobbed over with weld?
Don’t lose the faith yet.

Pics may help those that know where it should be.

And what does it mean confirmation letter from a garage? A garage isn't going to sign a letter regarding an engine they didnt fit.

Get your local garage to look at the engine number and then list it and your reg on a letterheaded letter stating this engine in this reg. My guys did it FOC, they had worked and known the car for many years.
If you check this reg number LF51LGJ you will (May) see a 6.3L Range Rover probably the only legal OF on DVLA records, easy:)

Oh and I don’t care about my reg as it is now exported:)

marjon i know where it should be, i have a few spare engines knocking about, and its under the exaust manifold towards the front of the engine, obviously somebody has tried to hide it and the only reason is that this may be a stolen engine or taken out of a stolen car, i can,t think of any other reason to do that
