How do chaps,

Weird thing happened the other day when rolling of the driveway in reverse I heard a Big Bang and one corner was on the bump stops! Very weird I thought maybe the pipe had burst or something.
Anyway on closer inspection the bag had somehow ripped the plastic top out of the rubber bellow!
Anyone know if it's repairable if I press the cap back in or is it destined for the bin?

Re folding it is going to be the hardest job. Was it badly fitted or do you have the wrong shockers on? EG front shockers on the back. They are longer.

I had that happen with a bag once. Not so bad but just enough to start leaking. Hit a monster pothole at 50mph on a B road.

Never did get mine back together. It is very tight and hard to get any kind of leverage. Plus I was worried that it might be looser than before. Guess a hairdryer might soften the rubber a bit.

Just out of interest, was the bag from Island 4x4? Mine was. It had been on 6 months though and given the pothole I felt it was unreasonable to send it back.

It should not be possible for a correctly fitted airbag to come off the end caps. The length of the fully expanded bag is far greater than the distance between the chassis and axle as set by the shocker length. The bag should be held firmly in place by the air pressure inside it. But always anomalies i suppose. Only reason i can think of that this would happen is if a front shock had been fitted to the rear. They are 2" longer in travel and may cause this as it would cause the axle to over articulate, putting a bow in the inflated bag. Any sudden shock when over articulated may twist it off.

Defective bag then. Hence my question about Island. I couldn't work it out but the pothole I hit was a monster. My shocks were definitely correct. Had Terrafirmas on the back at the time and they were a bit harsh compared to Boge.

That is the point though, a compression load would increase the air pressure in the bag and tend to force it onto the caps rather than off them. But also as said there are always anomalies. The Dunlop bags on mine came from Island and have had no problems with them at all, they have been on four years.

I bought the bag as a set of four from island 4x4 in January. I did ask about a replacement but they send I would have to send it back and wait several weeks for testing which is obviously not practical so will not be shopping there in future.

I have standard height shocks and fitted in the correct orientation front to rear. I will try and pop it back in soft with plenty of lube ;/

Send it to me (as well as the pasties, sure my postie has put weight on as I never got the last lot you were sending), I have lots of experience forcing rubbers on to something that is to big for them.:D:D:D:D:D

I would bin the air bag purely for peace of mind and reliability otherwise you will be waiting for it to bang when it is p***sing down at minus 15 and blowing a hooley when you are late for a plane
