Hi guys. Only me o_O

Me old Ninety's steering felt strange. Had a lot of travel in steering wheel before the wheels moved in either direction. So checked underneath and found the big nut that holds arm to box was nearly off the stud lol.

Anyway done the nut up tight.. And steerings back to normal. (seems to leak a little to)

Did some research. And it seems there is supposed to be a washer with tabs folding over the nut and arm? Not sure why there isn't one. Maybe the tabs have fallen off? Here's some picks. Any info would be great fully received.

Thanks in advance
Danjo

Yes there should be a tab washer. As your arm is loose now would be the time for a new seal.
Can be done on the vehicle,Remove arm,[ usually the hardest bit] take off dust seal if it is still there, remove the large circlip.
Start engine and turn to full lock, this should blow the old seal out. Press in the new one. I used a tube spacer and washer and pressed it in using the large nut.To stop the new seal from splaying when starting it off I put a strong plastic tie around it.

If it’s still loose, I would do the repair, then swap the arm for the Discovery type. It’s a better design and makes balljoint changes a breeze. I still need to swap mine, but struggled to get arm off last time.

Thanks for info.
May try and replace the seal.

I tightened nut up as much as I could with adjustable wrench. But is it normal to have a small gap between arm and box? (as in small amount of spline still visable)
Cheers

Look down from above at steering box and count the number of bolts in the top plate, 3,4 or 6. Most likely a 4 bolt. DLS do set, find on fleabay.

Too late to have a look now. But it had 4 bolts in top. Alan bolt in middle and a nipple thing. So thinking that's the one so will get it ordered.
Cheers guys

Personally I put another nut on and locked them together and put a dab of paint on so I can easily check. A bit paranoid ,probably but for me peace of mind.
