driving with no roof or doors

maybe a stupid question, and really premature considering i cant drive mine at all at the moment but can i drive the series 3 with the roof off and have people sat on the benches in the back? also does the thing legally have to have doors. i know its probably stupid questions but its been an on going argument with one of my mates for a while.
 
afaik you can drive without doors.

have done in my s1 lots of times, cornering can be a bit hairy. :)

you can drive without the windscreen too but keep yer mouth shut and wear eye protection
 
On series 1's the doors where just lift off so yes you could drive without them on two and threes doors are bolted on and door tops lift off . With that in mind I think you would need lower door on for the insurance as it is not designed to be lifted off.Which if you have a hard top would mean obtaining a lower tailgate as well.
 
You would void your insurance if you modify any vehicle without declaring it to your provider. If someone crashed into you and god forbid someone was injured and they sued you ( likely in these times) you would lose everything as your insurance co would not cover your costs. Doom and gloom yes but it could happen.

not if he has a cat flap, tailgate set up on the hard top :rolleyes:
 
depends on what constitutes a modification i guess, driving without a removable hard top or doors that are designed to lift off (s1) would not imho.

S3 doors being bolted on may be more difficult to argue.


Decades of pictures of land rovers being driven without tops or doors would be regarded as persuasive.


I might be wrong but the insurer may be obliged to pay out to the third party if not to yourself.

As fun as it is to drive without roof and door tops,(and it is) it seems that whenever I take all that off mine it ****es with rain and becomes freezing cold...until I put them back on!!
 
Last time I asked the insurance company about taking the hoodsticks/door tops off the 90 they said it was fine and I could do as I please. They didnt mind if the windscreen was folded down/removed either.

The door bottoms may be a different matter though.

if you have bench seats in back the insurance company will say it is a seven seater so check you have your landy insured as a seven seater

This was with the NFU, however it was insured as a soft top and therefore included in the policy that it could be used with the roof off. The case may be different if you have a hardtop or a different insurance company :)
