I wouldn't take it to a dealer. These cars are so old that most of them are clueless.
Have you tried pulling the collet out and making sure the (1) orings inside are properly seated and neither of them are folded up like a taco in there; and (2) the collet itself is undamaged from your wrestling match with the airline; and (3) there isn't a bit of airline or other debris in the collet?Hi folks,
just an update...
Strut replaced but still there’s a leak.
Popped the Schaefer valve on at the air box end in an attempt to locate and found this: (see pic) which was almost certainly my ham-fisted attempt to free the airline from
The burst air strut.
have cut it cleanly with a specialist pipe cutter but cannot seem
To get the new end to ‘latch’ in the collet.
Tried the pencil sharpener trick but clearly didn’t get it square and ended up
With an elliptical end ! Arghhhh !
So, trimmed it square but still not convinced it’s seated and latched correctly.
does anyone have any secret tips or tricks ?
Thanks again
bob

If these check out and you have a nice clean new end on the airline after cutting and the pencil sharpener then a good squirt of silicon spray into the collet and on the end of the airline (or a dollop of silicon grease) followed by a good shove of the airline into the collet should sort you out.
Hopefully.
Hi, I’ll have a look, although it’s chuffing fiddly -especially now the tube is an inch shorter.
I’ve been very gentle with the collet and it’s a brand new air spring, hopefully it’s dry in the morning and I’ll have another go.
I think the issue may just be the tightness of access - even with the arch removed !
Airline isn't expensive unless you buy from Land Rover.
I would tend to agree. Splicing adds another potential point of failure which might come back to bite you later.Dont bother splicing, just change the whole line
