On the basis that the conversation with the boss when she gets home outweighs the task. Bathrooms cleaned, gyozas steaming. Also, I’ve emptied the dishwasher so I may have to deny I’ve either broken something or bought an expensive LR part. Maybe this was a step too far.
 
Got the thing out, both covered in oil. Bloody nut on the earth post snapped off, fortunately there is enough of it left to reattach. Heavy old lump especially when covered in oil. Now the unenviable task of cleaning it up.

Was the dishwasher empty from earlier ;)
 
I’m tempted by this colour scheme. Wheels are in being resprayed satin black. Roofs going in to be blasted and sprayed alpine white. Something like this or sand might work.

Rebuilt the starter today as the garage was the coolest place in the house. Anyway, still as cream cracked as before. Both starter and solenoid are original 1979 units so I’ll buy a new solenoid and give that a go. Got the shaft spinning twice, solenoid engages the clutch every time. Think there might be a voltage issue.
 
I need to do mine sometime , it starts then makes a screechy noise stops turning engine
Have you seen the starter testing bit in the green bible very in depth

No, not seen. Watched Britannica Mike a couple of times. Took care when taking apart, sympathetic de grease and reassembly. I think the solenoid was goosed before I stripped it. I’ll get a 19s ordered, try that and if it still does’na work I’ll order a new M45. At 45 years old it’s has a good innings.
 
I removed the engine wiring harness today, well half an hour ago as the alternator and starter are on the bench. Well ffs besides being drenched in oil, there are wear through rub marks, chopped in butt joints and missing terminations.

I’ve looked on line at a replacement - forward of the 8 pin connector. Nothing looks similar on the series 3 harness but does for the 90 and 110.

This loom contains the Lucas plug to alternator, the engine temp sensor and the oil pressure sender plus the ignition to starter and the + to starter wires.

Can anyone suggest a part number - the web spat out LR425, but although it looks similar I’m not sure it is.

The very worst case, I could replicate the loom on the bench, this would require splicing the 8 pin connector though.

What type plug is on the end of the loom that connects to the main loom?

Then post a few photos & @gstuart @v8250 may know where to source. They good with connectors
