The time has come. Repair or replace....that is the question. The bottom frames are starting to crumble a bit. I can weld so thought about yrm parts and repair. Or, replace. Anyone used the new doors on eBay for about £200 ??

No, but stick a link on so we can have a look at them.

Better dust the welder off!
Oh yes.
Next question then.
I,m thinking of renewing the door skin. Aluminium or Steel ??
I've seen galv steel skin for £106. My only concern would be fitting it as Aly would be easier to work round the flanges.

Oh well.....suppose it's just a matter of gettin on with it and see what happens. Thanks for all the feedback..... Should have posted in AG and might have got a better response.

For my resto I bought three new doors. Steel frame and ali skins. Cheap Britpart ones. I took the skins off and got the frames shot blasted and plastic coated. (galv probably would have been better) I then painted the inside of the skins. Then used a bonding/sealant on the frames to mount the skins on to the frames. The ali skins folded over ok, but based on that experience bending galv steel I suspect would be interesting/tricky. I've no experience of them though. I would have thought there is a reasonable chance the galv coating will crack, in which case you would be in a potentially worse situation if water gets in to those cracks, than with the ali skins. I'm hoping the work I've put in to keeping my ali skins away from the steel will make them last a long time.

Thanks mate. The steel ones are what's fitted 2006 onwards I believe. I've decided to go for the repair route, with repair and galvi. I'll start it in the new year. If I've any money left.

It'll be interesting to find out how easy they are to bend. I suppose they must do if they sell them! Good luck with it, mate.

I went with repair panels and galvanised steel skins from SP Land Rover as I couldn't justify 440 per door for a whole new door. You don't need to worry about the skins not bending, they bend really easily, I'm constantly worried I'm going to wreck them moving them!

I've T-washed them and they will hopefully get etch primered today (got a thread in the members projects section).

I think I'm going to pay a friend to weld the frames for me though, we only have a stick welder and I've been told it will be difficult with that.
