im welding the l200 though... half the chassis is missing (no really it is!!!!!)

replacing the entire back half of the chassis though.. its taking its time 
I would just put a new* chassis on it, but i cannot be arsed to swap everything over. I love the car to bits and want to keep it forever so it deserves the attention besides im putting on the decent shocks and stuff i wanted to put on ages ago and fitting a body lift kit so i can remove some of the 9" suspension lift off it to reduce wear and tear on the drive train. Cant wait to get it back on the road now
we also picked up another skoda felicia fun! the mrs wants it as a sort of retro pickup. so we are doing that up. i had forgotten how good old cars were. When the blower fan didnt work, 2 bolts and the entire thing was out! one biro pen spring later and we are back in business. Old cars are awesome

I helped my next door neighbour a few years ago who had a series III with a rotten chassis. He was lucky to get hold of a good chassis for it so we just transfered every thing over. That was my first experence with a Land Rover, couldn't believe how easy it was with everything just bolted together.

l200 is built by small people with small hands unfortunately. And EVERY bolt you touch shears off.

so is the v6 drivetrain designed to take more power than the 1.8Would be inetersting to see the difference it makes
(after the clutch and gearbox)

well i whipped off the vcu and propshafts. What a difference! Its like a different car. Ok yeah it doesnt handle perfectly, but its not that bad either. VCU was absolutely solid. and it had taken out the front diff mount as there is a good 15-20mm of play in that now! Something to sort out when the VCU gets repaired.
Other issues are - one of the roof clips fell off! coolant pipe burst, passenger window doesnt work and just falls down! (temporarily bodged with a towel whilst i wait for a repair kit) and the heating issue.
Top half of rad is scalding and bottom freezing. Bottom pipe off the rad is also cold. Bled it, bled it again and bled it some more and its still the same. I tried the little valve thingy on the expansion bottle to no avail. Im going for a thermostat being stuck closed. (its worth a punt anyway) and at £5 for the parts ill give it a go. Ill spring for the posh thermostat once thats working. Other thing i thought might be the waterpump is gone or clogged with rad weld? (evidence in the expansion tank)
Sounds like a common problem this from the numerous other freds' so fingers crossed its nothing too serious.
To be honest though... we actually really like it! considering its much smaller than the shogun, there is lots more room inside and the kids loved it with the roof. the dog loved the rear window being open a smidge and i just like the fact its better on fuel than the mitsy. do admit to missing the power of the diesel under the bonnet so pherhaps if we get on with this one we will get a newer td4 or something in the future. In the meantime though. Its fun

Much better on the road as a 2WD innit. And if you put bigger road tyres on it the handling is sweet as. Mine has 235/55/17's and I run mondo 70% of the time, mind you I don't go oorrff road.

wouldnt want to go to any bigger than the 225's that are on it. it doesnt have the torque to pull bigger wheels in my opinion. Its slow enough as it is!

Torque is what damages drive train components not power. The standard KV6 claims to make 177Ftlb at 4000rpm. The L series diesel makes much the same amount of torque at 2000rpm and the TD4 makes a bit more so don't worry about it's ability to take the KV6s torque especially as the auto box robs 25+ Ftlb of it
